Fabio Capello is thinking about playing with three central defenders during the World Cup, BBC Sport understands.

The England boss is considering a move to 3-5-2 from 4-4-2 if Manchester City's Gareth Barry is forced out of the tournament by his ankle injury.

Capello has never played with three at the back since taking charge of the national squad in 2008.

England played a similar system under Steve McLaren in 2006, when they went down 2-0 away to Croatia.

Bill, his track record so far with England has been oustanding. The mood in the camp is as positive as our last great side under Sir Alf. I suspect whatever he asks of our lads they will learn quickly and follow. They still must be a good bet for South Africa, and for once, I belive that they will go all the way to the final. Max...

I'm sorry guys, call me a pessimist but did we not all say how 2006 was our best chance of getting to the final, and even winning?

That was when the likes of Ferdinand, Terry and Gerrard were at their peak for club and country. Ferdinand has hardly played at all this season, and its hardly been Gerrard and Terry's greatest years. Joe Cole who was our star performer in 06 has also struggled for games this year, when his flair out on the left would have been priceless in a position that has always been difficult to fill.

I think going into South Africa expecting us to reach the finals, or even the semi's is a long-shot and puts an awful lot of pressure on the players. What I'm trying to say is, if we don't go on about how this will be our year so much in the build up; maybe, just maybe, we will be pleasantly surprised.

England are a very ordinary team with only 2 decent players (A.Cole& Rooney) the rest are average or past there best. They have been very lucky in there Group draw and may qualify but as soon as they come up against a decent team they will get beat

Jimmyboy, Would agree with you there only a very average side..been flattered by being in a weak qualifying group ....and have a very easy passage into the quarter finals...not clever enough to beat a good team add to that poor strikers [ Rooney apart].. and i think once again they will flatter to deceive once again. Heskey could'nt trap a bag of cement !!

Looking forward to another disastrous world cup for England. When are you going to be talking about 66 again?

All this talk about Rooney, he's not exactly world class, he couldn't trap wind
