It dont seem like many people are bothered about this post or the Cyprus Today front page about the BRS....

I am really struggling to wonder why?

No confusion over this. The majority of people can't read the item because they don't live on the Island.

Personally I don't care that much if the Various organisations survive or not (nor in what form).

Well it seems that our 'beloved' new president wants to shut down ALL British groups and societies...first on the list is the BRS.....i am assuming, he wants everyone out and off the island!!

The need for ministerial oversight of all associations is not a new thing. They have been trying for years to oversee all societies... with varying degrees of success but more commonly failure.

They are annoying more than mendacious. This newly phrased law will probably fail to further this aim. The news article is 'State of Fear' scaremongering at best.

The powers that be have an innate fear of organisations they do not control and see them as a hot bed of dissent. That's understandable as it's probably true. That they think they can control this dissent is naive and ill-judged. given this information age forcing the BRS underground, to the south or overseas will achieve nothing.

Unless they ban the internet, the members will still be able to communicate, some may say 'even better' given the abject failure of the society's communications to date in trying to convince the membership of the open and transparent nature of the BRS accounts.

There is nothing in what has been published to suggest that this is aimed at "the brits", let alone that "the brits" are first on the list.

This is another sign that this government does not want us here. Our money yes but not us.

Foreigners must buy fishing licences was the start now this.

AerialBar. It does not say ' BRITS ' but it states that only those who have ' Permanant Residency ' can belong to any orginisation.

These new laws are only minor hicups but it does give a glimpse of what the future might hold.

Like I said in another thread: the 'Rich Club' already have enough cash and assets to see them through this millennium and now feel that they can legislate, or discriminate, just as they see fit!

And what is precisely defined as 'permanent residency' - our [fragile] temporary annual visa status?
