News announcement was that it looks likely to affect the UK tomorrow (Monday) but then the winds are going to change to south westerly which will take it north of iceland. Tuesday onwards should be OK

Repeated from other thread; Hi all, The latest from NATS; The CAA’s no-fly zone required by the high density volcanic ash cloud will not affect London airports for the period 1300-1900 (local time) today. The no-fly zone for this period has moved east to a line stretching from Prestwick on the west coast to Humberside on the east coast and south to a line just north of Birmingham. Airports which fall within the no-fly zone include all those in Northern Ireland, Ronaldsway, Prestwick, Carlisle, Manchester, Liverpool, Doncaster, Humberside, Leeds Bradford and East Midlands and some Scottish island airports including Campbeltown, Islay and Barra. There are currently no other restrictions within UK airspace. Information about Irish airspace can be found at on the IAA website. Dublin airport will close from 1900 tonight until at least 0900 tomorrow. Northern Ireland (LDY, BFS, & BHD) similarly closed. Sorry BallyB, I hope it clears for you

Update from NATS 1630 BST For the period 1900 today (local time) until 0100 tomorrow (Monday) London’s main airports will still be clear of the no-fly zone imposed by the CAA due to the high density volcanic ash cloud. The ash cloud continues to change shape and move further south to just north of Oxford during this period. This brings Birmingham and Norwich inside the no-fly zone in addition to those airports already affected. The northerly extent of the no-fly zone in England now includes Teesside, stopping just short of Newcastle, and tracking northwest in a line just north of Carlisle, which remains in the no-fly zone. Airports inside the no-fly zone include Carlisle, Teesside, Humberside, Leeds Bradford, Blackpool, Ronaldsway, Caernarfon, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Doncaster, Norwich, Birmingham and East Midlands. In Scotland the no-fly zone includes the Western Isles, Campbeltown, Prestwick and Oban. All airports in Northern Ireland remain closed.

Latest for Ireland at 2030 BST AIRPORT Flight Operations: Dublin Closed until at least 1200hrs local Monday 17th May Cork Open until further notice Shannon Open until further notice Donegal Closed until at least 1200hrs local Monday 17th May Sligo Opens at 0900hrs local Monday 17th May Ireland West (Knock) Opens at 0900hrs local Monday 17th May Galway Opens at 0600 hrs local Monday 17th May Kerry Open until further notice Waterford Opens at 0600 hrs local Monday 17th May North Atlantic overflights through Irish-controlled airspace remain unaffected. These latest restrictions have been enforced as extensive observations of the drift of the ash cloud, the volcano's activity and the latest weather forecasts indicate an increased quantity of ash over Irish airspace. ITV are predicting that London airports are expecting to close some time during the night. Things look like they will get back to normal on Wednesday. DD

Yes, Liz! Richard Branson and BA do not sound like happy bunnies: Virgin Atlantic president Sir Richard Branson called the closure of Manchester airport "beyond a joke". "All the test flights by airlines, aircraft and engine manufacturers have shown no evidence that airlines could not continue to fly completely safely," he said. British Airways said airlines should be able to decide whether it was safe to fly, as the current approach was "overly restrictive". http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8685913.stm

We'd all better get used to living with the unpredictability of these ash clouds as the volcano belched out more fire & brimstone a couple of days ago. Whether or not we get to fly on the days we want seems to depend entirely on wind direction. The ash is still going to be spewed into the atmosphere as the volcano remains active. Also, don't expect a 'long, hot, barbecue summer', just occasional good, hot days, as overall temps. will be much cooler thanks again to the volcanic ash up there. What now the price of global warming??

Here is the latest from our end.. May 18, 2010 New measures to minimise the disruption to air travel caused by the volcanic ash cloud are coming into force today. The Irish Aviation Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority in Britain have jointly agreed a new fly zone that will allow aircraft to fly closer to ash clouds. The decision follows analysis of data collected from aircraft engines in the weeks since the Icelandic volcano erupted. The new measures are being implemented from midday. The IAA said the move will reduce flight restrictions in Irish and UK airspace in the coming months and will soon be sanctioned by authorities throughout Europe. It is estimated that a thousand flights were grounded across northern Europe yesterday due to the ash plume.
