I heard in the news that the first charter plane from Holland landed at Ercan today and the tourist were dispersed to Girne and Famagusta area. I believe that the plane touched down at Antalya airport and then came to Ercan. More charter flights are planned from Belgium to start in July. Full marks to the new Minister for Tourism and his undersecretary who are both from Famagusta.

You are right, not direct flights in the sense that it had to touch down at Antalya. Presumably they could come direct to Ercan but have a "technical touchdown" at Antalya but I suppose it makes more economical sense to exchange a few passengers there. Antalya is a very popular tourist destination and thus combined packages for Antalya plus TRNC may be very attractive in the future.

paul mate will you stop going on about " direct flights" . they cant fly into turkish cyprus without touching down in the only country in the world who recognise " the de-facto state TRNC" . Its no big deal having to land and then take off again is it ?

direct flights will happen in the not to distant futre when the political situation is sorted one way or the other . i think you will find the court case that went against CTA over direct was lost due to a rule involving the worlds governing body in aviation , something to do with the TRNC not being reconised by this body .

AndyF. The Chicago Convention basically states that each Sovereign State has power over it's own airspace. For this purpose TRNC=ROC.

untill they fill the flights there will be no direct flights anyway,every flight ive been on someone has got off and some got on in turkey, not cost effective till they can fill the flights
