Liz I would love a bit of global warming back here in YUK. Looks like we had the best day yesterday and we spent 14 hours in the car travelling the length of YUK and back again! We managed to get to 19C max and people were so excited about it!

Liz,

What has the ash got to do with global warming?

Hi all,

Great documentary on Discovery the other night showing the Icelandic and the affect on air travel.

Then they showed Russian Kamchatka peninsula with something like 300 volcanoes with 40 erupting at the same time. If there was 'sympathetic' eruptions, the sun could be blocked and we could have a volcanic winter all over the US and Canada, maybe for decades.

As it is, volcanoes contribute more 'climate change' elements into the athmosphere than all human activity.

So Lilli is correct.

msg 1,

What is "global warming ash"?

Are you suggesting that global warming has caused this volcano to erupt, or are you suggesting that the ash will cause, or add to, global warming?

1. Global warming does not cause volcanos to erupt.

2.The Icelandic volcano is, so far, nowhere near as big as Krakatoa or even Vesuvius were and they didn't cause any long term global warming.

I'm not sure I understand what you are driving at.

Someone has forecast that this Volcano eruption could last another 5 years.

From what I remember reading about Krakatoa, it did have a profound effect on global weather in the years following the eruption in the 19th century.

Have you seen the Discovery Channel ( or maybe Nat. Geo) documentary about what happens if Yellowstone erupts?

This may be a load of rubbish but what if the ash was to settle on the polar ice cap, it would change slightly in colour from white, that reflects light and heat, To a slightly darker colour that would absorb more heat and light than it used to, Would that make them melt faster?

cyprusair you could be so right, you would have to check so mant things before air travel, who would have thought it, yet we should have known one day it would happen xxx
