is it a coincidence or just sheer bad luck ? so many of us chose to spend our hard earned cash in trnc ,then come on a public board and slag the place off , wake up and smell the coffee springs to mind , or is there none so blind that cannot see ? if you xtgot ripped off by unscrupoulos builders hey thats your fault , next time do your homework ? lifes not a bed of roses , sometimes promises are to good to be true and more often than not they are , it was always a gamble , and if you gamble always expect to loose , from an ex gambler ?

It is no different then finding a women ,thinking she is the best thing ever happened to you and couple of years down the road ,she becomes the worst thing that ever happened to you.

S**t happens,is the only thing that springs to my mind.

you've asked and answered your own question... I would add that of course the ability to air your woes makes for a concentration of discontent to be disproportionately gathered in this place... Much the same as if you held a rally for home buyers in any Mediterranean country... it's going to attract those with problems.

For the record, we are mostly very happy here but of course we would do some things differently if we could do it over again....

I chose not to buy in TRNC because I wasn't convinced that it would be a sound investment, I decided to rent instead. However, I think that it is a bit disingenuous to blame all individuals for their woes. Whilst I wouldn't disagree that some people may not have done their homework, an awful lot have invested hard earned money only to have their dreams wrecked by unscrupulous builders, advocates et al. For many, no amount of homework would have told them that their builder was going to do a runner with their money, remortgage the land or run out of cash half way through a project. The TRNC is not the UK and we (expats) should not try to change it into a little Britain. That said, just because we have chosen to live here does not mean that the TRNC is above criticism and people should be entitled to voice their opinions, particularly in light of the scandalous building/legal practices that are allowed to perpetuate without legislation from the 'govt'.

You beat me to it Ailetoo! Been back a month and it's like living in a time warp. Third world country, try getting a meal after 7pm and you have had it! No buses, trains when you need them... the list goes on and this is before we have cuts to claw some money back!

Try getting a meal after 7pm? - I don't know where you live but if I go out for a meal it's invariably after 7pm & never had a problem yet.

I don't think he is saying he is perfect. He is correct I have never heard of so many Brits moving to another country then moan about everything in it. Things may not have turned out the way they wanted them to, but as the saying goes you made your bed now lie in it. Just get on with it and stop moaning about things all the time. It is so depressing.

So true. I have to laugh when I have been sitting in a cafe when people are doing nothing but moan about the place, then they start talking to holiday makers that have started a converstion with them and then they have nothing but good to say.

It's a Brit disease - we love a moan. As they say when the plane lands the engines stop but the whining goes on. I feel very sorry for the people that have been ripped off big time but the people who moan about the little everyday things need to open their ears and eyes. As my late lovely brother-in-law used to say 'if life gives you lemons, make lemonade!'

Nowhere is perfect and what you lose in one way you gain in so many others. I think the real gripers would be griping just as much if they were still in the UK.

I love it here in TRNC and would never (OK I know - never say never!) consider moving back to dull, depressing, expensive, rip off, crooked UK. Every time I go back it always strikes me how rude, aggresive and miserable the natives are and I can't wait to get back home. It's not all rosy here but we've made a wonderful life and met some truly nice, thoughtful friends (locals and Brits) and I know if a bad time strikes then a good time will surely follow

I'm one that has had a catalogue of problems since I came 4 years ago, but there's two things you can do either get off your 'axsx' and sort the problems out or lay down and moan. I decided to sort the problems out and now, yavas yavas, we're finding that all we ever wanted is here in TRNC. Been back to the U.K and wonder what the hell's happened to it. Later when we get really old we may have health problems like many others but I really can't see we'd go back to the U.K as it's become like living in George Orwells worst dreams.

Today the sun is out, a salad and a beer on the terrace overlooking the sea... What better??

Brits, if you don't like it here, leave the TRNC. GET OUT. Go back and moan and whinge in your beloved UK. Do some here a big favour - GET OUT - and make this an even better place without you.

Hans I think we should pay them to go back as they suggest immigrants here in the UK should do - plus a free daily mail for life.

Sadly their influence has begun to poison the TRNC as happened in the south and elsewhere.

Of course there are a minority who have lived there for years who are thoroughly decent civilised people but you don't see or hear of them much because they are just that!!

The other point is of course that the UK is better off without them.

Isn't Holland a very tolerant country? Perhaps they would be happy there.I wonder how long it would take them to bring it down to their level. !!!
