A few months ago we were working at a house in Catalkoy and in the back garden of the empty house next door were two dogs. They had jumped in and one of the dogs, a bitch and the dog in question, injured its paw and had been unable to get out again. Her faithful friend, the other dog, would not leave without her!!

After contacting the owner of the house next door to make sure they were not his, we lifted the dogs out and they seemed very grateful. Since then both of the dogs have been living in the area and were always seen together until unfortunately one of them was run over.

Now the bitch is all on her own... She has obviously belonged to someone and I suspect they were British owners as she responds to commands in English. She is lovely looking, has a lovely temperament and is very affectionate.

Please someone give her a home, I would take her but I live in an apartment and work all day... message me if you want to know where she is...

Thanks

Yet another dog - reasonably assumed to have been abandoned by English speaking owners, as she responds to that language. I am weary of reading how people don't know they will get ill, or lose their job, or 'have' to leave Cyprus, so one shouldn't take the moral high ground or be contemptuous. No - if we have a child, until that child has reached the age of maturity, most of us (I did) either speak to a friend or relative and/or put in writing who we have nominated to take in our child until they are able to support themselves - having an animal is just as self-indulgent as taking on a pet - if we choose to do it, we should make provision for them, should we suddenly not be able to provide for them ourselves by having to leave them, in whatever way we do leave them. I posit that no-one should have a pet, unless they have thought ahead and ensured in their absence, who will re-home them.

you, MsGarnet, makes absolute sense but many of us take on these animals because they are desperate and appeal to our heart strings. I am one of these. Last year my mum died and left me a small amount of money. I have not touched this because if anything happens which we have not forseen, this is to safeguard the future of the three dogs which we have taken from the streets. Not everyone is so lucky. I honestly dont know which is best, take them and give them whatever they need for a short period or leave them where they are, suffering. What a decision to make. I am certain other people will have views on this, it is dreadful to have to make these choices, but we make them.

Hello

Been with the dog again today, she is still hanging around the job we were working on. Some neighbors that are here on holiday said they wish they lived here then they would take her. Please ask around, it is so sad.

If anyone wants to see her she lives on the road behind Yalcin Kasap [the butchers in Catalkoy], first there will fall in love with her. Warning! Don't fuss her if your not sure you can take her though because when she puts her paw on your lap as you leave to stop you going is very hard!!!

Someone must have a home for her... I will even give some money towards getting her checked at the vets...

Rowan - thank you. I agree it is so hard and as I have posted on here before, my daughter's pup ate poisoned meat in Girne and had an awful death; the heartbreak was beyond anything I can say............she said she won't ever have another pet - I say - never say never. I know when I get back there, if I saw this dog, I would melt - she looks adorable - gentle and stoical - this dog problem seems never ending, I wish there was a solution.........
