My advice would be to forget about trying to be the cheapest and don't be tempted to import more cheap chinese gennies than are already here. They are not reliable and no-one has any spares.

Hammer, My advice would be don't bother... an awful lot of people have shelled out money for generators and hardly have any use for them... we had one (before it was stolen) which we seldom used even though we used to have a lot of power cuts but so far (since the new power station came on-line) we have had relatively few and when we do we tend to tough it out.. not that it's much hardship... we have candles and oil lamps and play games with the children... Secondly as a business is very difficult to get off the ground there being so much bureaucracy to deal with... Lastly, you haven't found a niche in the market... there are plenty of businesses selling gennies.... you need to find something people need and don't find easy to aquire.... You might as well open another fast food outlet...

I agree with groucho. The market for selling generators is already well covered and I cannot remember the last power cut when we would have need to use a generator, if we had one that is. Must cuts are now of short duration and unless you are in business certainly not of a length that justifies wasting valuable petrol.

Why not look into small (1.5 - 2 tonne per day) desalination units?? These are avilable either electric or solar powered. The electric ones are only about 70cm x 40cm x 40cm People could have a 3 ton SW tank, processing unit, and a 3 ton FW tank. (3tones will last most people a week) You could then provide a sea water delivery service (the only one in fact), with more or less 100% profit!. Just a though that hasn't happened yet. take a look at http://www.bluspr.com http://www.bluspr.com/electric_desalinators.html
