I'm pleased to inform you all - first hand, believe me - that the first Dutch group of tourists in TRNC ( http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/36430.asp ) are thoroughly enjoying their stay. Several hotels are having the best season in years and the owners and staff are happy with the easy going, money spending Dutch(wo)men. No tattoos, no shouting, no beer bellies - just people interested in culture and the country. Great historical tours with licensed guides and with educated people, no accusations of scams - what a relief!

Next good news: Corendon, the Dutch based Turkish carrier, is now working on a second flight per week from Holland. And next on the list is another flight (as a starter) from (Flemish) Belgium. After Belgium: Germany.

P.S. Happy to read the worthless comments of the well known worthless contributors on this board...

Hi Dutch Crusader,

I am pleased that all the Dutch Tourists are enjoying their holiday in the TRNC. It can only be good for this part of the island. The hotels and restaurants will be happy to hear the news that more flights are on the way. After 2-3 lean years they really need this boost. I agree that the Dutch with their good manners will make a welcome change but you have to remember that all British people are not covered in tattoos and have beer bellies and it does take all sorts to make a world.

DC

With the arrival of the Dutch tourists, will we now see the streets of Girne littered with discarded spliffs and resounding to the sounds of Dutch folk walking around in clogs and speaking extremely loudly to each other ??

The above is a light hearted statement, but if we all made generalisations as you have made, then that would be the impression being perpetuated.

Not all Brits are as you describe, so please show a degree of respect.

Oops, you did... I did and I'm hanging my head in shame..

Keith, you have to admit the "No tattoos, no shouting, no beer bellies" was bound to get someone's hackles up... Was it a deliberate attempt to annoy? Possibly not, but it might have been wiser to couch the thread in terms not drawing such a disparaging comparison, don't you think?

Perhaps as DC has exiled himself from this forum he could simply post any information that may be useful to other members and refrain from trying to annoy people, thereby reducing the remarks made in response to his insults.

Groucho,

Yes, I did see the irony.

I also spotted a 'cut & paste' mistake that seems to have slipped past your eagle eye...

I think that the problem is Hans' 'sense of humour' if you can call it that; he does have a very mischievous streak, and when you are speaking to him face-to-face, and can actually see the glint in his eye & the expression on his face, you soon spot when he's teasing you...

I've told him countless times that the likes of 'irony' simply don't work in text format, but he's not convinced.

Just because he did manage it once, he keeps on plugging away at it - and brings all sorts of crap down on his head!

Well, that's my theory

I'm quite sure that hattikins et al have another explanation.

No offence intended hattikins.

So you think it was meant tongue in cheek, I think it was probably more foot in mouth, again !

hattikins,

Do tongue in cheek & foot in mouth go hand in hand?

Go on - LAUGH

It's only the bloody Internet, when all's said and done...

Dear Keithcaley,

In all great literature, starting from the times of Ancient Greece, irony works brilliantly in "text format", one only has to be on the same level of intelligence to understand and appreciate it.

Clarissa2,

You are quite right of course.

I expressed myself badly - I was really thinking of 'texting' - i.e. short message format.

1000 characters doesn't give you a lot of scope for artistic expression and certainly puts a strain on linguistic devices.

Also, Forums tend to contain material which is read at speed, and possibly 'skipped over' - neither factor being conducive to establishing a 'rapport' with the author, which I think is a great help in understanding intentions...

Personally I miss Hans posting, at least he is informed and informative regarding North Cyprus. He obviously spends a lot of time on his maps and history for a very small return.

Everyone who has been on his free walks has nothing but praise for his enthusiasm and knowledge.

He may not be able to tell us where the best 'Burger' or 'Sports Bar' deal is,......

Pity there aren't more like him on here.

RE Hattikins: You know who is/are laughing at YOU? 1 : I do. 2 : The hoteliers and their staff, not laid off this season. The taxi drivers. The dolmush drivers. The shops in the area. The restaurants in the area. The guides. And others. 3 : I do, again. Get it now, you sad, sad woman?

RE msg 13, Hattikins: (...) Perhaps as DC has exiled himself from this forum he could simply post any information that may be useful to other members and refrain from trying to annoy people, thereby reducing the remarks made in response to his insults. (...)

=> I laugh again loudly - at you. Remind me please of this one time you ever posted something the board members could benefit from..? Thank you. No, don't bother. You don't even dare to introduce yourself when we meet (it may have happened). Let's keep it this way. [End of my posts in this thread. Bye!].

You have lost the plot Hans, seriously !

And not dare to introduce myself, actually I had no wish to, there is a difference.

I have absolutely no issue with Dutch visitors to TRNC nor have I ever stated that, every little helps as they say, my point was why could you not just post the information, was it necessary to include insults. End of my posts to you Hans.

When he mentioned tattoos and beer bellies he was talking about the women!

Come on guys get a life, he's winding you up and some of you don't realise it.

People like Hans make these boards and he contributes far more to the TRNC than many of us.

You have to admit an awful lot of Brits on holiday are embarrasing. But they tend to stick together in the

hell hole resorts. Drunk and illiterate. What the natives make of them I can only imagine. Other Europeans....including the Dutch.....put us to shame. Is it all down to lack of education ?

But DC I thought you were never going to darken our doors again ?

scruffdog,

Well spotted

It seems that everyone 'self-selected' their own Nationality as fitting the description...

While the members concerned may not have tattoos or beer bellies, what does it say about our reading and comprehension skills?

Hey the Dutch have their louts too just go to a Feyernord or PSV game, the only difference they are much bigger.

Generaly the dutch are a very family orientated race who have a great sense of humour like ours, I lived there for 6 years and married a dutch girl. There main holiday destination was Croatia so I can see the appeal of the TRNC

I will welome them with open arms
