I know we all have different needs and tastes, but what would you estimate as being the monthly income someone would have to earn in order to live in NC?

Please also assume that there is no rent for this individiual to pay, but they would need to purchase groceries, travel, insurances, local taxes etc

Thanks for your response

Difficult one and only people who reside in TRNC would be ble to answer this one. Are you hoping to work when you move out there?

v difficult one.... depends if you use a/c a lot, where you drink, your appetite etc etc so below is just ballpark

£300ish if you eat like a mouse drink like a gnat and go almost nowhere.(perhaps less if you pick fruit, mushrooms, nuts, artichokes etc from the wild)

(i know Turks and Kurds who live on less)

£700+ if you eat out regularly, want to drink in places around town and party in discos etc.

p.s you can burn a lot more if you like to go to the Greek side shopping, visit Agia Napa, visit UK a few times a year etc.

p.p.s to those that live on £100 a month or blow £10k a month sorry for under/over estimating.

Hi Bradus

Yes, i am hoping that someone who lives in NC can answer the above.

I work as a Consultant in the UK. I have a quiet period in July/Aug. I am just trying to work out how much it would cost me to live in NC for that period.

Alas, I think the problem will be the phone as I will need to keep in contact with clients. I understand it is quite an ordeal getting the internet set up and i am not sure if Skype is reliable?

ps Also curious to know what the cost of living is anyway

if i were coming for 2 months and wanted to have fun i would budget AT LEAST £2000 but i do love to party and eat out. (you can always take it home again)

i would also rent a car for at least a few weeks as the buses are transit vans with no a/c and there is so much to see across the whole island that really needs a car.

on a 2 month trip you must visit: Karpas, Salamis, Old F-Gusta, central Nicosia, Guzelyurt region and even take a trip to Greek Nicosia (leave rentacar at Ledra Palace) for a Zinger Burger from KFC ;)

Perhaps it would help if we could compile a list of everyday foods, car costs, housing cost, to help judge ones individual cost of living

Interesting to read all this...

I am living and working here since many years and I have to survive with less than the amounts you are talking about.

But I think there are not many of you who really have to go every morning to work and come home in the evening and get e local salary.

But I can tell you - I enjoy my life with the Cypriots!

This is the reason why I am here!

yep im a party freak... doing a Napa run tonight with a crowd of friends including a Lawyer mentioned in another post!!!! and will be spreading myself thin round the clubs (Roxannes, Neo, Club 29, maybe Nightpark) of Girne on saturday if there is anything left in the tank!

the few times i travelled by bus i never got into a conversation with anyone and boy do i like to talk! if you want to chat with Turks and Cyps just go to a restaurant as having a laugh with waiters and owners is easy and can also get you bigger servings ;)

as for my Turkish.... its KORKUNĒ!....but i get by (most important for me is sogansiz, acil ...... oh and benim timsah nerdedir!)

i go to work 5 days a week... in my office now looking at St Hilarion Castle (lovely clear day.... good day for paragliding id say)

i will never be rich as i am a spend thrift and live for today so Kantara is probably right, you can live on less especially if you dont buy imported brands and know how to cook.

i have a buddy who gets about 900ytl a month and has to pay £130 (@ 340ytl) rent every month out of that.

You are right Donty...

This is the minimum wage we are getting here.

And the rent is taking away a very high amount from this...

But it is possible to manage it...

There are very nice restaurants to go and the supermarkets have a great choice of delicious food with reasonable prices.

We have about 800 Germans who are living here... not so many who are planing to come.

The amount of German tourists you can't compare with the Brits - only "few" are coming.

a Napa run is a night out (now turned into a weekend) in Agia Napa. it makes a nice break from the Kyrenia bar/disco scene as Napa is mobbed with 20 somethings all on holiday having fun.

most of my buddies are aged between 20 and 40 with me at the top end of that scale and going dancing in Napa is a good way of warding off cabin fever something i feel from time to time due to being an ageing clubber and now living in a small community with somewhat limited nightlife.

Should say that, that electric bill covers the aircon and pool pump too, todays Cyprus Tosay has reported that water rates may rise by 300%(still one hell of a lot cheaper than the UK!!!).

If you have car you have to pay the insurance and the road tax once a year.

Petrol costs YTL 1.950 per litre.

Good luck!

Hi desert rose

dont worry a good night out can be had but you sometimes need to work at it (especially in the winter)

I shall inform Terry that he is very cute, hopefully next time you meet him he will be less worse for wear ;)

Not asking for myself, obviously!, but do have 25 - 35 year olds staying now and then, so would be interested in knowing when the Napa run happens, as they find it a bit quiet here?

Great to hear that the place is good fun! Does it really get that quiet in winter?

Hi all,

I dont want to break up the 'party chat' but has anyone got a handle on how much it cost to get the internet and phone installed. I've been told you have to get a 'home mobile system' what ever that is. I have an idea it's a normal phone system but without a line,ie it connects via a small dish on the roof.

Also how much to hire a car for a few days over there.

a Napa run can happen at any time, you just need to get a few friends together and make a break for the border.

i normally go with a bunch of close friends. if your younger set want to come they just need to make friends (its easy over here).. we normally are in Neo bar at the weekends or sometimes Roxannes or Club 29 they only need to show up and get chatting.

i will email you.

desert rose

winter is a little quiet .... its best to find someone to snuggle up with to see out the colder months ;)
