The Red Arrows have been banned by the government from appearing at the 2012 Olympics as they are deemed 'too British' The display team have performed at more than 4000 events world wide. This dictat has originated from the department of Culture, Media and Sport The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectactular It is to be hoped that common sense prevails. If you disagree with the government decision, please sign the petition on this link: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/RedArrow2012/?ref=redArrows2012

Whilst I really like watching the Red Arrows and marvel at their skills; I can quite easily see that a symbol of military prowess does not really fit in with the ethos of the Olympic movement... I'm not a fanatic about political correctness, if anything I tend to have an inbuilt aversion to the same but having said so, I don't think it's bad decision.. just a personal point of view.....

This is an old story that has been doing the rounds. It seems to have originated in the Sun in September 2007. It has been denied by the Government, the Olympic Organising Committee and the Red Arrows (who don't plan their displays that far in advance.) Ian

When I first read Tansycat's message my first though was '...erm a Sun reader's delight' - just on a personal note whenever I see the Red Arrows in action (we have an air show here every year) I get really choked up.

If you like the Red Arrows, do not forget 20th July, Girne usually about 17.30 - 18.00. The Turkish Airforce equivalent perform and they are very good.

Jakki Do you live in Southend by any chance? If so, did you see much of the airshow this year and did the Red Arrows fly? We did not bother to attend this year as the weather was so awful and the cloud was so low.
