Has any one else been to this beautiful place? The scenery was simply stunning and so very quite and peaceful. On speaking to ex pats they didnt even know that some of these places exist!! ( found another such place)

The road up to this palace was simply stunning as were the small villages that we stopped off in and chatted in sign language when we couldnt understand each other, with laughs from both sides.

I dont know much about this place, but know it was constructed under Persian rule.... Any body know any thing about the history of this place please...

Re : Msg 1,

I am so pleased, Dizzycows, that you have discovered Palace of Vouni. Did you also stop at Soli?

Hi Clarissa 2, we did see the sign to Soli and will visit next time we are over as I just love these places.

It is so sad to think that there is so many beautiful places to see and so many ex pats dont get out and seek them.

Hi too to you wanderer, we went as far as we could until we came to the really rough road of mostly gravel , but turned around as thought we were going into 'forbidden country'! will find it next visit,

Thanks for the info Yenitom, it must have been a very important point at one time, as the site had good views from all sides.

Look out for the local mag. "Living in North Cyprus"...... there have been articles about Vouni, Soli ,Yesirlamak and any number of worthwhile local sites . And it's free. Back copies can be found at the Living office next to Freddies bar on the Lapta strip.

Hi,

Just brought back some lovely memories. We visited VOUNI first time in 1986. No car park, no entry fee no people, it was quite frankly the loveliest place we had ever been to in NC. Recommend that anyone seeking true tranquility should visit this special site.

Yes, I visited Vouni in 2000 with 2 Americans from the University. Very interesting and peaceful place.

Soli isnt worth going to really, its been "made over" and most of its cement! There are some mosaics under cover - once upon a time it must have been stunning. But I agree with everyone, Youni is great - we take anyone interested there when they visit.

That's sad to hear about Soli. We visited in 1996 and it was totally open and completely empty. I remember commenting at the time that it was unusual that if you wanted to you could just walk on the mosaics. At least it sounds like they have done something about that.
