i don't recognise this forum any more , it's all getting a bit too heavy , i know , i know , freedom of speech and all that , and i am not disputing that , and i do know that it is healthy to debate issues . but on a personally shallow note , i for one , am missing certain members and the friendly banter we use to exchange . will it ever be the same ? i wonder !!! hope so

Hi Pat, hope you are well,

I know what you mean but there is alot going on at the moment what with the talks and all. There does seem to have been more arguments as oppose to debates recently though.I suppose as the membership grows there will be more conflicts of interest. You have got to admit though the help that wynn recieved with his flight and taxi last week was really heart warming and goes to show that there is still alot of good will on this forum.

The story last week and even now, regarding the donkey had me belly laughing my man boobs off.It was hilarious.Perhaps some of us need to chill out a little.

Keep posting though Pat as it is always good to hear from you,

Warm Regards,Paul.

Pat,

I think the main reason for many more different types of discussion, many as you say 'heavy' now going on are that Cy44 has without a doubt become the number one BB for TRNC.

I remember joining the old MSN board, most of the posts were just helping each other out, nothing too 'heavy', plus there was Vaughan's technical BB, the Alsancak owners BB etc all on MSN. Then when that board closed, everyone moved to the phpbb3 villaowners board, most now I beleive contributing too (or insetad of) to Cy44, and just look how many members there are, Cy44 has an amazing 2,100 members (though I am sure a few people have second names), with the phpbb3 board running at 1,305. With so many people, so many attitudes, so many opinions, things are bound to get more involved, but lets not forget, in greater numbers also comes greater knowledge, and we all have the opportunity to learn more, and find out answers easier as a result.

I guess it's like moving from a village to a town, more opportunities, but at a price. However, where esle could everyone benefit from such a wealth of information. We all have pretty much free speak on the board, and we all have the opportunity to either contribute or ignore.

To the boards benfit, you contribute on a regular basis, and are usually one of the first to congratulate, welcome, praise etc making you in my opinion and invaluable member.

Stick around, ignore the crap, and continue to enjoy.

Happy posting

Brian

puppylover,

Sorry not me. Must have been two others!

If you are trying to spot me, I am the bald headed one with deep pockets and short arms.

I have eaten in at The Ship every night! (Its cheap, and the management were foolish enough to give me credit.

Hi Simbas

Getting bigger doesn't necessarily mean it gets any better...therefore I think I know where you are coming from.

I suppose when the board was in its infancy and had far less members there was an intimacy ( like we all had a personal interest in each other) that we don't perhaps have quite so much of now.

However the board in that respect is a victim of its own success and instead of feeling down about it you should take pride in playing a big part in making Cyprus44 one of if not the best source of information and help for all those with a genuine interest in Northern Cyprus.

Also the fact that I'm still here just makes it all the better!!!!

Jim.

Hi everyone

Well I know I haven't helped on that score. Even I look at what I have posted and don't recognised myself. I love to laugh and have seen some things that have really tickled me.

Loved the one about using oranges as missiles.

Hi Simbas

Always found this forum to be very helpful and interesting.

jim's point about the forum getting bigger is a valid point but i still think we should still be able to see debates and difference's of opinion without the recent slaging and mud slinging in recent months.

I for one tended to stay out of it and i'am sure there were many more.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion as long as it doesn't become personnel.

Kind Regards

I am a new member and I joined this forum purely and simply because it was informative and fun. I think it still is. Yes there have been some 'heavier' discussions that perhaps have got a little out of hand on occasions but the essence hasn't really changed. It never will change provided Simbas, Wyn, littlenige and many others are here on the forum.

There is a great variety of topics and long may that continue (sensibly!) I had a great discussion with No1 Doyen (albeit brief) which I thoroughly enjoyed. However I didn't get too embroiled in the seriousness of the subject to stop me making a lighthearted comment about using oranges for missiles as gilken referred to above! In fact that is the beauty of this forum, it is easy to change from a serious subject to one where you can have a laugh! However I agree with Simbas, the latter will hopefully prevail.

This forum enables us to have a brief time away from the trials and tribulations of life. I can't believe I just said that! Here I go with my inane and daft comments which you will all get used to from me!

Stop me rambling, please!

hi pat

i do note your concerns, and like a few members have said the forum has fallen to victim of its own success the popular it gets the more members join that are a bit more argumentive and ready to listen to other peoples views especially the heavier subjects!!! i was gone for a few weeks then the next min i come back im drawn into discussions where their is no conclusion just goes round and round

the forum has lost a bit of its appeal especially for us members who know each other thru the board but my remedy for this is to just post to each other with no other interferance, you are bound to have discussions that people dont agree but of late this is happening a lot more never mind these certain members like always will come and go and the core members will always be here to stay

Hi Simbas,

I agree with what you are saying, I joined in June 2007 same time as you and I have noticed that a lot of the original members have stopped posting. I miss them too. I find the majority of postings now are either too heavy and descend into name calling, or just so trivial and silly that it is posting for postings sake Maybe we could try and find out why some of the old members stopped visiting this site.

But this is a forum-why shouldn't people be able to express their views? If it gets so unpleasant that it becomes offensive, the moderator steps in. Horses for courses, differents threads for different discussions, surely?

I found this forum by accident - like many I suppose - and was really impressed by the friendlyness of those who post and reply. We have brought a house in Lapta (not able to move out yet as planned, due to the house market in UK ) and it is really reassuring to know that there is so much knowledge around from those who have gone before that they are willling to share their experience and knowledge. I feel as though, when we are able to relocate, there is a whole bunch of new potential friends. Love this forum, despite the occassional bitching.

This one is true, someone told my parents they'd overheard it: A TC man on a bus was asked by an Englishman what time it was. He looked at his watch and replied, 'Upstairs, downstairs it's one o'clock.' LOL.

I think the forum self moderates itself pretty well despite it's size. People step in where necessary and ask us to take a reality check. i.e simbas has just demonstrated so on this thread. Cyprusishome steps in when people are not debating but making personal attacks. etc

Can I suggest that if anyone posts a political thread could they write (political post) after the subject heading. Most of the posts are obvious but that would ensure that people don't get embroiled in any heavy debates. Mind you I think alot of people like the entertainment generated by the cut and thrust of these debates. (not everyone of course). Maybe that's why the 'Apprentice' programme is so popular

I do have some concerns for integrity of the forum. If more political activists are lured to this site then it could change significantly, without some change to the structure of this site. But hey, that probbaly won't happen. Lets just enjoy the site. More jokes would be good to balance things out.

A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller. He can see from her nameplate that her name is Patricia Whack.

'Miss Whack, I'd like to get a £30,000 loan to take a holiday.'

Patty looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager.

Patty explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral.

The frog says, 'Sure. I have this,' and produces a tiny porcelain elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink and p erfectly formed.

Very confused, Patty explains that she'll have to consult with the bank manager and disappears into a back office.

She finds the manager and says, 'There's a frog called Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow £30,000, and he wants to use this as collateral.'

She holds up the tiny pink elephant. 'I mean, what in the world is this?'

(you're gonna love this)

The bank manager looks back at her and says...

'It's a knickknack, Patty Whack. Give the frog a loan, His old man's a Rolling Stone.'

(You're singing it, aren't you? Yeah, I know you are........)

Never take life too seriously! Come on now, you grinned, I know you did!!!

Have a lovely day

here we go again, taking the rise out of sick animals now, what with wyn,s

crippled donkey, and now a sick horse.i just give up.we should be there too help sick animals and not make jokes about them.last week i found an injured

bird in our garden, one i had never seen before so i called the r.s.p.c.a out to look at it,and asked her where it had come from, but she didn,t know but said it was probably an ill legal

Hi Beths,

How are you both? Good I hope.

Yet again had a lovely holiday at The Ship. I will pass on your best to Zube and the lads.

The weather has been stunning. Never mind home tomorrow! Why does there always have to be a reality check in life?

Regards,

Hey cruggs!.

My comments were about an hypothetical donkey were in a tale dreamt up in my over

enthusiastic imagination. NO real animals were involved. .I personally am a great lover of animals, and I still shead a tear for our westie that we lost a year ago. For the record I havent barbequed the builder either!

Humour, is just that, and no offence was meant!

Cheers mate!

Don't worry about it everyone else got the joke...its just a Wyn thing and you have to make allowances he is a Black country lad and the poor chap is obviously pining for the warm embraces of the good Lady Wyn also he still feels a bit upset at losing my FAVOURITE donkey!!!

Lets hope someone takes pity on him as he trudges his way back to Larnaca during the early hours of Sunday morning his feet blistered and bleeding...If anyone does see this poor soul on the road don't stop just roll down the window and shout out see you on the 24th.... Donkey killer!!!!!

Hey wackyjim,

No need to get uptight Old Son......I wasnt telling the truth! I didnt give the donkey a pint of Effes....I drank it myself.

Still the donkey tasted lovely , fricassayed in Black Pudding.

Better get training lad. You wont have Simbas to hold your greasy hand on the night!

Hi simbas, trust you are well

Its nice to see this post.

I agree, I had got disheartened by it all, I do not mind the political debates as there is alot going on with the island that we should know about, I am all for a good debate and exchange of views, but the rudeness/condescending/insulting/behaviour of some puts me off.

Have a good weekend

Hi Pat we are going out in August - will be very hot!!! Looking forward to it though. We are all great thank you. Boys are excited about breaking up from school - the eldest got up at 5.15am this morning thinking he was on holiday!!! I have just posted some info on flights for you on the other post you did. Have a look - not sure if they are any help to you.

Have a nice afternoon.

Nicky
