I've just had an email reminding me that tomorrow is blood donor day - so far so good! BUT at the beginning of the email are all the email addresses it has been sent to! If all details are supposed to be confidential why did they not put all the addresses under "BCC"? I don't particularly mind people knowing that I give blood but I do mind every man and his dog knowing my email address. Looks like you were right not to trust the BRS Brinsley. Bet this wouldn't have happened with Chris!!!!

Not condoning it , but perhaps the person who sent it were not computer literate , i didn't know about the BCC until someone kindly informed me .

booitsme,

Booitsme

In the defence of the BRS, Karen Wenbourne (apologies for the spelling of her name) has now left and Prue Lundy is doing it all herself so probably didn't even think that this could happen.

And before anyone starts I am still not a BRS member but think in this incidence they are doing the best that they can.

Chris

p.s. Thanks for the compliment and you are correct I wouldn't have made the same mistake or DC would have had my guts for garters.

Simbas,

BCC stands for blind carbon copy.

Hi Chris, the email actually came from Karen not Prue - oops! Part of the problem is that the BRS HAD promised the same level of confidentiality a you gave. I think the idea behind the email is a good one but it still doesn't fill me with confidence that this has happened. Still, we all learn from our mistakes! And I bet DC is a pussycat really

my understanding was that Karen had resigned.!!!

DC was too smart to use e-mail he texted when we needed blood and paid the cost of the text's.

I think DC is a pussycat as well but Trix I am sure will say he is a tiger!

Msg 1

I received the same email and replied immediately:-

"I will NOT be there and should be only contacted in an emergency for any patient that needs my blood, AB Pos. Richard"

This is bang out of order, having once been asked to donate and did, for one particular person in desperate need of my blood group for an emergency operation last year, I wonder why the BRS have taken over all the hard, clever work that Chris did and then expect non-members to cooperate with their selfish, self-serving ideas of how an expatriate community should behave?! Not fit for purpose!

Do you use GMAIL?

Try this - Send yourself a short (test) email to your normal email address and also use BCC to your second address (I am sure you all have one just in case) then when you receive it, open it straight away and look at the top right hand side of the email.

You will notice a line that says - Show Details - click on that line and see what you get!

mick,

You're right!

However, email sent from gmail only shows the bcc when you are logged in as the sender.

I tried sending an email from my other half's gmail account to my gmail account, bcc'd to my yahoo a/c.

Still with me?

GOOD!

Neither 'recipient' a/c showed the bcc.

So that's all right then

Keith,

Interesting! I logged in on my other computer to my other email address and sent myself a message to my gmail address and BCC'd it to my address I was sending from. When I opened my gmail in mail I could see the BCC address that I had also sent to my other address?????

So intrrigued by this I will do some more digging!

Mick,

You can see the Bcc if you are logged into the gmail a/c from which the mail was sent - it doesn't seem to matter whether it's on the same computer...

My apologies to you all. I sent the emails out last night in haste, and realised this morning that i had not sent them via a BCC. I do understand the importance of confidentiality in these matters.

Once again my sincere apologies to you all for my error.

Karen Wenborn.
