Hi i have been told that there is a museum containing vintage and classic cars in Girne. Maybe a private owners personal collection. Does anyone know where it is and when it opens. Many thanks

It is underneath Reşat (Rıchard) Nıazı's part built hotel/restaurant next to the monument near Escape Beach. He passed away Dec 08 but the cars are stıil there. Along with his 2 Ostriches and lots of other bırds and dogs etc., I am sure ıf you pulled ın there someone would be good enough to take you down to see them.

Have not been but there is an excellent car museum in Lefkosa. Over 60 cars.

There is a collection owned by Dr Suat Gunsel at the Near East University, Lefkosa includes - 1956 Austin Princess used by Dr Kucuk, 1955 Austin Cambridge, 1967 Hillman Hunter, 1958 Chevie Biscayne. Many of the cars were actually used in Cyprus.

Entry is from 8am to noon and 1-4pm weekdays. 10tl addmision. At NE campus in Lefkosa. Turn left at first roundabout on entering campus and follow signs. (copied from CT)

Collection in Girne owned by Tamer Konat and much of it is currently up for sale as shown in CT today.

For viewing you need to contact Mr Konat for sale items or museum on 0533 861 1188

The ostriches went from Richards a couple of years ago.

The collection at the university is mainly that of Richards, Cyprus Today somehow forgot to mention that in their piece a couple of months ago.

Rev Walker of sports column fame is the man in the know as he and Gary Chapman wrote the original articles with Richards co-operation.

The Ostriches were still there when I last went about 4 months back, I will check today to see if they are still there. Yes the collection at the university is mainly that of Richards.

Off Topic - Richard was building a small village above Lapta, beautiful place, using original stonework. That is where he loved to be when he came over. He still has staff there looking after it, along with Donkeys and an impressive selection of birds along with his beloved dogs of course.

Fallenangle: Take the motorway to Lefkosa. When you get to the roundabout take a left. Then a take the first left (It is signed for Near East Uni) before you get to the Ataturk stadium. Follow that road for about 800m and you will arrive at the university.

Been to near east Uni Classic car museum a few times.Never had to pay.The guys let u sit in the cars and they switch the engines on for you as well. Most of the cars belonging to Mr.Niazi were removed by his family after he died. There are still a lot of interesting cars there.

Thanks for the directions, will definitely go there when our family visit next week- sounds like a great place to go for an afternoon of nostalgia for car fans. Fancy getting an old morris minor myself , it would be a lot cheaper on the road tax.
