Just to remind folks that when you buy at this auction, be prepared to pay an extra 17.5% hammer charge. It is written on the catalogue but if you dont have a catalogue you wont be aware.

This must be the only place in the world where some(not all) auctioneers charge sellers and BUYERS commission!

Hi Navek. I dont think there are any other charges. It says on the back of the catalogue "KDV is inclusive of all hammer charges" I still think that`s a bit much because if you are buying something eg for 100gbp you are going to end up actually paying 117.50gbp. Also think 5tl for a catalogue is a bit much, which is why I thought maybe a lot wont have one and therefore not be aware of the hammer charge. We used to go to Amanda`s auction and extra charges there were KDV plus hammer charge. At Lambousa Auction you pay what you bid and no extra, and I think I am right in saying the catalogues are 3tl.

I think you will find that all UK auctions charge both Buyer's & Seller's premium they are after all running a business and there is no compulsion for anyone to buy a catalogue or buy at the auction if they do not want to. There is a huge amount of work involved in running an Auction such as this and several staff are needed who of course have to be paid. The catalogue has to be compiled and printed, I have never seen the Lambousa one but maybe it does not have colour photos and look so professional? Anyway fingers crossed for the end of the week for the viewing on Friday and the actual Auction on Saturday. There will be refreshments available on the day!

Ozankoys In reply to Message 7 "I think you will find that all UK auctions charge both Buyer's & Seller's premium they are after all running a business" I dont disagree with your comment but 17.5% seems rather a lot. After all the Auctioneers will be being paid by the Vendor. "The catalogue has to be compiled and printed, I have never seen the Lambousa one but maybe it does not have colour photos and look so professional" The catalogue at Lambousa is not dissimilar to yours actually and do you really need colour photos as the items are there for you to see. "There will be refreshments available on the day!" When we viewed on Saturday there was tea and coffee available. Help yourself from two thermos flasks and plastic cups. 3tl each !!! A lot of people grumble about Gordon`s prices but he, after all, has a huge amount of overheads at Lambousa and this is basically a House Contents Sale, held on the premises with no overheads for the Auctioneers.

Having dealt with Auctions not only here but in the UK also, there is a hammer charge and VAT to the buyer and also a premium to be paid by the seller. As requested by the TRNC government and Tax Office VAT has to be charged on the hammer charge and also on the sellers commission, the tax office in Girne are quite adament on this fact, second hand goods are not liable to VAT (or KDV as it is here) but the hammer charge is.

In answer to the directions for Scruples - follow the main road out to Lapta - before you hit the Lapta 'strip you will see a turning on the left for Gardens of Babel (there is also a big Haci Ali sign too) - take this turning (there are Auction signs at this point), and follow the Auction signs to the car park. Easy!
