Is it me or does anyone else think that the new management at the Stumble have lost the plot? The place needed tidying but I think they have gone too far and destroyed the character of the place. As for the service, one word describes it; AWFUL! This place badly needs staff that are willing to work and have a reasonably efficient manner and dress sense. Then again perhaps I`m wrong and the locals still love the place, even though when I`ve been in it`s been pretty empty. There is a lot of potential in this bar and one hopes that the new owner addresses some issues before his investment goes down the pan.

hotbogaz I agree. Yes its clean. Gone is the character of the place Gone are the books that people brought exchanged and had a drink whilst there. No dogs allowed exept the scruffy stay thats lurking there. People have given mick ( nice chap but no experiance ) a chance to turn it arround but alas they are voting with their feet. Quite often when a new owner takes over a bar there is a period of adjustment lets hope things get sorted soon and I can get back to my watering hole.

re dogs, In fairness, animals are not allowed inside any catering establishments by law. Should health or municipality officials find them they have the power to close the premises down instantly. Not taking a stand on this issue - just pointing out the law

Fair enough about the dogs but I`m concerned about the long term viability of my favourite watering hole. Hopefully Mick will take on board what old Stumblers are saying and turn it around soon.

ilovemydogs, The phrase "people who live in glass houses........" is the factor here. In such a small community if you go out and attack people out of the blue those same people will find you out. We are sure Rachel knows exactly what.

very addictive site this. it is a shame when people attack others. friendly debate is ok . maybe a little criticism when the facts are wrong. but ultimately this site has been very helpful to me . and the banter is very funny at times. i personally can't wait to be walking down the road in kyrenia , and shout hey that's littlegige or wynyardman or anyone for that matter.

LambousaGordon: "In fairness, animals are not allowed inside any catering establishments by law. Should health or municipality officials find them they have the power to close the premises down instantly." Whereas officials do apparently nothing to stop the chronic problem of stray dogs, many of which end up run over or poisoned.

put a new manager/ess give them a free hand for 6 months and see what happens. people with no expereience should not take over a pub/bar unless they have done either voluntary/paid work behind a bar. some people see it as an easy means of making money without knowing the pitfalls. its bloody hard work but if you do it correctly and have honest hardworking staff you pay well it will pay you in dividends eventually

any manager / owner is only as good as the staff he employs. In the uk I interviewed and employed many many people from cleaners to assistant managers of £12 million turnover buissness, you have to take responsability for the staff you employ their training and development. All staff need aprasal, encouragement and leadership. It starts with you do ou inspire confidence? do you exube enthusiaem , do people warm to you? do your staff trust you and have the confidence to come to you with problems? I am sorry for the speeling and grammer mistqkes I am but a simple lancasire lad, some one said " if they aint got it at 14 they will not have it at 40 "

Got to agree nige, but you must have somebody at the helm to take charge, often found it's the punters that make a pub.

Jock you are right of course but mine host has to lead entertain be jovial welcoming , create ambonce etc ben and live did not do it all right but You were made welcome ( or I was ) I have gone fro 4 - 5 times a week to every now and again I loose count the number of people saying the same thing. YThe place has potential . It used to be nice. we used to be able to chill there. Yes ther were problemsin the later days with the pervious management but I would estimate if things do not change within the next few weeks there will be developments. This is my opinion and may or may nor reflect the opinions of fellow stumblers.

I think the Stumble suffers in the same way that many other establishments do in NC in that they are all trying to attract a limited number of regular customers which will keep them going till the tourist season kicks in. Problem is that regulars can be a fickle bunch that very often don't like change and when change does happen they tend to check out other places, also there are too few tourists going around to give these places the lift they desperately need and when that happens and the income doesn't cover the costs then understandably any enthusiasm to run a business disappears. I was there on the opening day and agree with some of the other comments regarding the "new" Stumble, however I do really hope things sort themselves out quickly and they can make it work before its too late. Jim.

No names but We visited one of our old drinking holes when we were out a few weeks ago and it had changed a lot, the pleasant manager had up and left and it was being run by a couple of young inexperienced turkish boys who forgot nearly everything and the service was sloppy, the owners sat at the end of the bar smoking ignoring customers and slanging a customer off in easy hearing distance of us and others, we voted with our feet and never went back, it is so sad when this happens

I wish people would stick to the subject matter, rather than go to all different direction not related to the subject that is being discussed, namely stumle . Yes I agree the place has completely changed, rather then go on about it ,its enoough to say thet I agree with all the adverse comments. I personally thing dogs should be left at home but thats my personal opinion but If you ban dogs you cant let your own dog roam around the place,as Micks dog does. At the moment he is getting a lot of support from the teeside crowd but Unless things start to improve,we will desert him as well. Hope things get better because he is a nice lad.

I can't understand why people keep going on about the dog. Its a poor stray that goes there every now and then and it does no harm. Mick lets it stay because he doesn't want to be mean, but he is trying to impose a no dogs ban, but that is because of the situation with the previous owners. Yes, the Stumble has changed, but lets face it; it needed to. Ok, maybe Mick is a bit out of his depth, but its a new venture for him and at least he's trying. Anyone who has ever started, or taken over a business knows that things take time and it is often difficult at first. There are things that need to be done and there are things that he maybe hasn't done so well (yes, bring back the books), but I don't think a bit of support at the beginning is too much to ask! In my opinion, the Stumble is a nice local, british pub and if that goes, what's the alternative?

Ok here is my contribution. I went today at approximately 14.30 there were about 30 people in over the next 2 hours this built up to about 80 people a good mix of young older and kids. The kitchen was spotless very very clean. Gents toilets no urinal! Also a roll of damp paper place on the sink to wipe your hands on, No holder fixed to the wall, The ladies had the same problem with the paper towels either the holder is broken or something I did not lurke to find out. Having been on many previous occasions I have to say ( in my opinion ) The place has been decimated, People used to congregate around the bar and the central seating area and chat now there were a few people sat at the bar but There is no atmosphere to the place. I spoke to mine host and to say it was like pulling hens teeth trying to engage him in conversation would be an understatement, the “ bar manager” was smoking behind the bar and showed little or no interest in customers. New Tables and chairs have been purchased for out side very good but why oh why have the sticky labels not been removed and why are they full of mucky hand prints where they have been assembled? The free buffet was fin sausage rolls, pork pies cut up, tuna mayo sandwiches and ham and mustard sandwiches on white bread, coleslaw mixed salad and tomatoes, No forks one had to use ones fingers to eat the salad and coleslaw! From my observations mine host and his “ bar manager” made no attempt to welcome or meet and greet many of the customers when the buffet was served mine host went and sat at a table with 5 of his regulars. In summary the place is a gold mine but mine host and his “ bar manager “ need a crash course in customer relations and presentation, there is clearly the good will there from the customers but for how much longer only time will tell. I have tried to make this as factual as I can without unfair / unjust criticism and without bringing personalities into it . As for the dog issue I am of the opinion no dogs means no dogs the stray should not be there it looks diseased and in poor health kar will look after it. I made the effort to go and try it after reading about the problems, efforts are being made BUT…………………

Hi Littlenige, I agree with all that you say and from the rest of the threads so do everyone else. Having a personality is paramount and above all respect for your fellow human beings. I hope that as the last thread said, Ralph96 has emailed the comments to Mick and he will be able to take action sooner rather than later to enable him to raise the stakes in the future of stumble
