Having read the bad press about this bar, I will now advise him not to attend. Disgraceful!!!

The bad press seems to have been on this forum because there is very little in Cyprus Today regarding what may or may not have happened. I was not there so am not going to jump to conclusions but as I have said on another thread I do not think this is the place for it to be discussed, and it has nothing to do with the reunion.

IF i was in Cyprus at that time i would be glad to, but hope all goes well and maybe a 'mini association' can be formed without having to get legal. A good idea as there are a lot of ex forces in TRNC.

I was involved in the beginings of the Cyprus Memorial and we were trying to start an ex servicemans association in the North but all we met was hostility and lots of legal problems. So a great idea to keep to a sensible (if the bootnecks) like the Airborne can be called that, to a small amount of like minded people otherwise some clown will construe this as an 'illegal gathering'

If the 'booty' from Kayalar who watches rugby in the Celebrity attends- he is still wrong-" 2 Para, first ashore, first into action and first into Stanley!!

Angus,

Of course I'm going !

If you ever get back to TRNC give us a shout I would love to by you a wet or two.

This meeting will always be 'unofficial' so we don't have to bother with the red tape nightmare.

Stay lucky,

Per Mare Per Terram.

Dear boy, the Paras went ashore with 40 cdo at the same time, somebody had to show you the way and hold your hands, it's all very well falling out of a plane, theres only one way to go, but map reading come on never meet a para who knew what a map was !!!!. Look us up next time your in TRNC and we can share a few wets, be careful not to get lost and remember Pain is temporary Pride is forever Per Mare Per Terram.

When we came ashore at Carlos we were led by .....SAS, 40 CDO were not ashore until we started digging in on the heights awaiting the airstrikes. I believe we left our 'scrapes' for you guys whilst we went to engage the Argies at Goose Green and when did 40 CDO appear ......... oh yes it was AFTER the battle. Mind you your guys did a good job resupplying us. You remained at GG whilst we went chasing Argies and after the surrender the hard neck of the Marines we had to leave our 'comfy' accommodation for the sheep pens in Stanley.

Then on our return we see that your PR Machine is a lot better than our non existant as all you see is Green Berets on photos, but BLUE for TWO knows better hahah!!

About getting lost however we know our northings from our eastings!!!

Good banter good to keep up the 'Friendly Rivalry'

Will admit though I wish Aldershot had a Pub like Diamond Lils on Union Street Plymouth though!!- Monday night amatuer stripper night - highlight of our adventure trainin

My dear boy, I think your having a senior moment, when you went ashore the SBS had already been on the islands two weeks, why do you think we knew were the Argies were ? I was with 42 CDO we passed you when we were yomping and you lot were tabbing we'd already taken Mount Harriet and Twin Sisters before you caught up !!!! If it wasn't for the politicians we'd have finished the job off ,but were ordered to let you catch up. Still your not a bad lot, looking forward to sharing a wet. Take care of yourself ad next time you get lost ask a Booty !!!!

Mr Yogi1

Did not see any bootnecks at Goose Green, oh and whilst 3Para where taking Longdon- which incidentally was the first battle to start for Stanley, the Second Battalion was engaged in their SECOND Battle of the campaign called Wireless Ridge.

Also about facts who did the raid on Pebble Island- no it was not the SBS it was Boat Troop 22SAS as the OC of the SBS said it was too risky so Boat Troop proved them wrong.

When we came ashore we were guided by the SAS as they had been on the island for a while but I feel your claim for them being there before 2 weeks is a slight exaggeration.

No troops were landed and that includes SF until after Pebble Island as was not considered safe as Argies were alleged to have an all singing all dancing Radar.

The only troops to 'TREK' all the way were 3 Para and 45 CDO.

Bootneck- God is Airborne as Paratroopers dont die- we go to hell to regroup haaha!!Well we all wore T Shirts like that in younger days!!

Before I say anything, I am a " New Draft" compared to you old sweats (37) and every thing i say is second hand (passed out of the old Guards Depot in 89 - 90 so all my instructors where fresh from Scotts Guards)

You harp on about the "Maroon Mafia" and "Booties" but what about the "2nd Bn scotts Guards"

I hear the ran out on rounds and took "Tumbledown" at the point of a Bayonett

Welcome 'Tick Tock'

Think slight exaggeration there mate but Tumbledown was taken by the Scots Guards and they sustained a lot of casualties. The other Guards battalion- The Welsh we pulled out of the water after Bluff Cove and to be honest they were in no real state for contact, will never forget the gaunt empty faces on the boats as our lads were in the water pulling the boats in the poor guys did not know what happened and were hit hard with a dose of harsh reality.Still is legend that they took the Officers Mess Silver to war and a mobile disco unit was washed up ashore as well as rumour of watching porn below decks when the exocet struck!!
