i can't believe we have a forum full of animal lovers . and yet nobody wants to put their hands in their pocket , as someone said if every one gave £5 it would make an enormous impact . aw , c'mon you know you want , just think of their rumbling little tummies and the fact they don't have a somebody in their lives to wag their little tails at . we could really make a difference ! could'nt we !! chris has very kindly volunteered to do all the admin involved , so you would'nt have to do anything , please think about it

regards , simbas

Simabas, my wife will donate a fiver as well. She won't need persuading as we feed about 15 stray cats at the moment and our rescue dog! Unfortunately (or fortunately!) the cats can't come into the house as the dog goes crazy. In any event they regard our outside furniture as their playground and they are often lazing on the sun beds! I must be daft!

Well done for starting this, let's hope it is a great success.

Hi Simbas,

I will start the ball rolling with £5.

If anybody wants to donate, cheques can be sent to me at:

Chris Williams

62 High Street

Sharnbrook

Bedfordshire

MK44 1PE

My son, Robin will make a link or web page that everyone can go to, to see how much we have collected.

I am hoping to be living in NC in the not to unforseeable future, although I am trying to stay here a bit longer than I originally anticipated due to the housing market, or lack of it!

Everything will be sent to KAR before we leave, and if it is succesful, maybe somebody else in the UK could take over after we have gone?

Fingers crossed it is a success!

Not what you all want to hear, but is this not a bit like giving famine victims food, when what they need are tools to grow food??

The only long term solution is to either ship hundreds of dogs out (won't happen), or have a massive cull (can't apparently happen), like I said not what you all want to hear, but sometimes someone has to come up with a solution, not just describe a problem. Please tell me if I am wrong.

The other thing that needs to happen (and won't) is to neutre the majority of dogs left.

Unfortunately it's not a problem caused by the dogs, it's yet another poorly administered disaster, brought on by lack of accountability.

Moscow is currently having huge problems with stray dogs, which is so bad they are now forming into packs and roaming the streets attacking, a few people have been killed by them.

Could happen here in the not too distant future.

Please don't label me an animal hater for this, i'm not, just facing up to the fact that there are more dogs than are wanted as pets, and the numbers are still increasing. If what I am saying is incorrect, please post a workable solution.

Hi brian24001 , don't be silly i don't think you are an animal hater , you are only saying what most of us think , responsible owners ect there would'nt be a problem if it was'nt for them , but these animals are already here and need to be taken care of , who knows KAR could actually use some of the money to start a neutering programme , that would be brilliant

have a good w/e , simbas

I agree with you Brian! See my post on Stray dogs. I think it's such a shame for the dogs to be spayed/neutered and put back out on the streets to face a life of starvation, hostility from the local people whose bins they raid, getting run over by a car and possible broken bones and dying in agony in a bush or being poisoned. I know KAR does a blinding job, but I think it's kinder to put stray animals that cannot be re-homed to sleep. Government vets will humanely put an unwanted animal down. The problem lies in the lack of education re proper animal care. However I believe KAR have started an education program in the schools. It's the same thing with lack of knowledge and education for driving safety i.e....wearing seat belts and using child seats! Educate the people and the problem will slowly change! Maybe they should show the same hard hitting adverts that they show on UK television, I know they had an impact on me!

in goa . international animal rescue do a fantastic job. they capture tha dogs and spay or neuter them . they have to let them go if no one wants them but after 5 years of visiting the place you can see the differance there are not so many roaming in packs . they do ask you if you befriend one which most people do when they are their. to de flea it and worm it which can be got from the shops for pennies. and if you find a dog that hasn't been done hang on to it and inform them. you can tell because they take a little chunk out of their ears.

it is heartbreaking to see all these stray dogs, if i could bring them all home i would. some people took dog chews for them but they can't eat them . they are not pets and can't stomach the same food as our dogs.

also the reason we got a beagle was to save him from lab experiments. not good for humans smoking, let alone dogs.

£5 from all will not help the problem even kars tells people to take the dogs in the hills and leave them they cant cope

its the hunters that started the most of the problems if the dog is no good they just turns them out and i know people gone away from the country who had dogs and they just went and left them, they shoud have to pay a big lisense of maybe £100 a year to keeps dogs, with bigger fines if not paid, then we woud see who really was the animal lovers

i agree , education has to be the long term goal. but for now getting the population down by seeing to them and finding loving homes is the best short term goal. but like anything else are they willing to listen. it was nice in spain to see spanish people with dogs on leads. lets face it there aren't many countries that love our pets like we do.

will send my cheque today.

I agree with what has been written that education would be a way forward and introducing fines for people, I also agree with humanely putting the dogs to sleep, whilst not ideal will prevent an animal from dying a potentially painful death.

I have read a thread on this forum that people who are going out to TRNC could perhaps take collars, leads etc as I believe KAR always needs them.

My cheque will be in the post, Chris.

Hi Guys

Just like to say to Brian that the KAR rescue already have a neutering programme for both cats and dogs, plus they are tryng to build more pens for the stray Cats/Dogs but their funds can only run so far so any kind of donation no matter how small is always welcome from the guys who help to run the place. The program that Simbas has started is a wounderful idea and I know that it will be very appreciated, but also if there is anyone who is good at DIY if you could volunteer to help build more pens for the animals or just help to feed them anything at all everything counts. as for the £5 donation Chris like Jim I already donate straight to the Kar Rescue so please don't think I am being tight.

We now have grand total of £25, so Robin, the boy wonder is starting to take this a bit more serious and is frantically building a page you can view the donations on.

He tends to work harder the more pressure he is under, so keep the money rolling in!!!

There are supposed to be two of us collecting, one in the UK and one in NC, maybe the person collecting in NC could send their donations to BARK?, and I will send to KAR?

At the moment we have £40.00!

Excellent achievement so far!

Thank you for everybody who has donated, Robin is putting finishing touches to site, but you know what arty farty folks are like, they wont release anything until they are happy with it, I shall steal it when he is not looking!!
