Hi Ian02,

The weather will still be hot but watch out for the sand flies.

Thanks peeps, having been stupid enough to go virtually unprotected in June and suffering some 60+ mozzy bites(scars only just gone) I'll take on board your advise.

Oh dear did someone mention mozzies? I really want to go to NC but the thought of having another relaxing holiday ruined by these blighters. Nothing but nothing works on my skin against these pesky little blighters. They want my blood and nothing but my blood

Ian - the weather in October is fabulous - we were there last year for the last week of Oct and it was in the mid 80s every day. You may need a light fleece on some evenings but that is about it.

On the mozzies - I promise you if you take garlic caps and vitamin B1 tablets daily for 2 weeks before you go and whilst you are there you will not be bitten !

Me and the missus are going out next Tuesday for 3 weeks, and war has been declared. We have bought wrist and ankle straps, citronella candles, jungle formula spray, solar powered insect zappers, window fly screens.

Bring them on.

Bob and Anne - we go next Wed (23) - forgot about the Citronella - that also works wonders. This year in the UK they are selling a lot of burners (most of them are like small round rocks - but hollow) - John Lewis have them. Put a few of these on your balcony / terrace and that really helps to keep them away as well - but dont forget the garlic / vitaminB1 - it really does work !

Bob & Anne, you are my kind of people. I have every invention known to deter mossies, I just end up well, being BITTEN! I am off out now to buy garlic caps and vitamin B1. I am sure they are in my regular combined caps but if it means I dont get bitten I will be taking them religiously! Have a good holiday

I always think Octo return, but by the time you add the cost and timeber is the nicest month, its still pleasantly warm but the fierce summer heat has gone. Sometimes a chance of rain.

Just had 10 days in Kyrenia, the mossies were out in force, but I found that a fan switched on at night in the bedroom made the temperature bearable and kept the little bleeders away!

Incidentally came on a budget airline flight Leeds/Paphos for a very reasonable £145 return, but when you add the cost of transport to Kyrenia and the time taken, you save little in money or time than if you come on THY or KTHY from Manchester. In future it will be Manchester/Ercan for me!

We were out in Cyprus in June and despite taking every precaution my husband was bitten by something and ended up having an operation on his leg to scape out the poison and dead flesh. He still has 2 huge holes in his leg which have to be dressed 3 times a week and has been told that he will always have scars. The moral is if you do have an adverse reaction to a bite get medical attetion. He didn't until it was really bad , thinking it would clear up, it didn't it just got worse.

Also, don't forget Avon Skin so Soft dry oil spray. I used it while I was out for three weeks in June, still got bitten on the few times I forgot to spray!! but found that spraying it onto the bites I did get stopped them itching and they cleared up really quickly.

this is from somone who the mozzies love!!

Have a great time

I find drinking lots of efes and brandy-sours seems to stop the mozzies from biting, or was it I didn't care anymore....... still nice tips as I didn't know about the garlic caps and B1.

I just returned from TRNC & am amazed that this time did not get a single

mossie etc. bite! I left my windows open every night - no flyscreens. Did not

have any mos-repellent except a small thing bought on plane which works by

sound (only very young & animals can hear it, which rules me out!) Hardly used

it at all. I have always been a prime target for these little horrors with allergic

reaction. Maybe they've gone off me lately? Am not complaining but it is puzzling.
