Following the bout of rain last week, my wife (whilst trying to collect stuff from getting wet) went flying on the

perfectly smooth floor tiles around the pool. These tiles had a film of rain on them, thereby making them almost impossible to walk on safely. I'm sure at home that builders would not be allowed to use them, they are so dangerous when wet.

Luckily she was only shaken and not hurt, but this incident has persuaded me to retile our pool area with more suitable, textured tiles that will not allow water to form a film on them.

1. Any ideas where I can get them from?

2. Any ideas of a possible alternative?

Thanks in anticipation

As rowlo says,

"most tiles are slippery when wet , your not at home " ie UK standards!

Best bet is to wear footwear with a good tread,

ie not flat, or barefoot, were there's wet tiles.

Had a few near misses myself.

Anytime we have guests, we're always telling them to be careful on wet tiles.

Some tiles fitted are not suitable at all.

Hi - I don't know if it is available over there - but there is a spray that makes tiles less slippy. I think there is a product made by HG??? But again if this is right I don't know if it is available in NC.

It's not the fall that hurts - it's the bang when ya tail-bone hits the concrete!

Corinium,

We have proper 'non-slip' tiles around a pool, they are still slippery when they are wet. To be frank, you just have to learn to walk like you are on ice... (and no, I don't mean wear ice-skates )

I would save your money...

Yuu can buy textured tiles in most tile shops. I have them on all my floors, because in the previous house, I had a couple of nasty falls down the stairs when rain leaked into the house onto the stairs.

answer to your questions

How does work?

our Anti-Slip Solution reduces the risk and dangers of slip/falls and the resultant potential of personal injury, lawsuits, and litigation costs, employee days lost and increased insurance cost. The increased coefficient of friction gained when surfaces are treated (not coated) our Anti-Slip Solution is a positive proven safety solution for owners of residential and commercial properties and facilities. When surfaces become wet or moist, those surfaces are automatically skid and slip resistant, when treated with Grip ourAnti-Slip Solution.

the Anti-Slip Solution can be used on almost all hard surfaces, such as ceramic tile, glazed brick, marble, polished stone, terrazzo, river rock, concrete, and quarry tile.

When you have this product, could you please contact Octopus Pools as we feel this may be a good way to make pool steps less slippery.

To Tony there is a product that can make your tile non-slip when its wet.

I have seen it before its called "Johnny Grip". I dont want to post up the link in fear of being flagged as spam, as this is my first post. But you can look up their name in google. The stuff really works, I am positive its just what you're looking for.

Slippery tiles can be dangerous to anyone especially children. I hope you can get it fixed soon. Good luck.

Corinium, when we fixed tiles around pools or commercial areas, ie prep rooms, wet areas etc, in the Uk Proper non slip tiles where available

We had to use them they where specified. However this is cyprus and they fix unsuitable tiles all over the palce in situations where they shouldn,t be,

I have seen some tiles here that are very non slip, They contain carberundum quite often. It sparkles, like the Altro saftey flooring that you very often see behind bars in pubs,

Yes you can get non slip here, Actually the least slippy things are your normal textured paving slabs, I think they call it garden Marble here. and very cheap.
