Can anyone recommend a download thats free and that can be used constantly, not just a free offer for 1 month.

I have downloaded eset but it keeps asking me to download other things as well and other items have appeared on my desktop for example desktop pictures and animation?

Also when I took my pc to the repair shop they said my old DVD player was not compatible with my new motherboard, they installed a new DVD and downloaded a programme to play my DVD's on but after 4 weeks a pop said your trial has finished and asked for a code number. Is this normal? Does anyone know a safe free download for DVD playing.

I used to have Comodo all in one securit y . I found it very easy to download and use and it's free . You can download the whole suite or just firewall and anti virus .The only reason i stopped using it was because Barclays give you a free suite with internet banking . http://www.comodo.com/

Avg free is probably the best free option. I've used norton, mcaffe(I don't recommend it as it's over intrusive and you get so much crap running in the background), bullguard and several others. None of them are any better than AVG free which I am now using. Get AVG free, malwarebytes (available from malwarebytes.org) and ccleaner available from ccleaner.com

all of the above are free and will keep your system as good if not better protected than any of the packages you have to pay for.

After 4 years AVG wanted to charge me. I then switched to AVAST, after 18 months it is still free.

I think AVG and AVAST both offer the same protection as each other.

AVG Free Edition IS free. They have altered the way a 'pop up' arrives asking you to Upgrade but I just delete it when it does come up. It's worth that little nause to have one of the best anti virus systems.

DeeCyprus,

I am afraid to say in this instance the fact that it's free doesn't make any difference. AVG/Grisoft are comitted to attracting new users to AVG, that's why they offer several different options including free versions and versions you buy.

AVG Free is very good indeed but is not a full security suite, it's just anti virus.

However Windows has it's own perfectly adequate firewall, plus Malwarebytes provides better spyware/malware/adaware removal than any of the security products you can buy.

Ccleaner is a great free cleansweep type program which keeps your computer free of internet temporary files, browsing history etc.

AVAST and AVG are equally good as each other, we've all used both of them for years.

Important thing is to get either free.

just Google "AVG free" and download the latest version - by far the best FREE anti-virus available.

Can you not just watch DVD's through windows media-player? if not - just google 'VLC player' and download the latest version free.
