Morphou has done it again. Officially the hottest place in Europe last Thursday (36.1C). Here in the UK we came close (!) with our mini heat wave and highest temp. of 28C. Only lasted 3 days but it was stifling!

John-Roy-Tenko Have a look at the BRS thread where I've exposed your real age! With a name like yours, are you sure you weren't in the BBC TV series banged up with all those women in Singapore under Jap control! Richard

It's reaching 45C in Dubai and that really is hot. Pity the poor labourers working outside in that heat. The summer temperature cannot "officially" go above 50C because that is considered too hot for anyone to work.

Rogerdodger: Now THAT's some heat number ! Surely you couldn't and wouldn't be outside in those temps though? Don't think any human could survive more than 15 mins without flaking right out.

I guess we should all think ourselves lucky -after all, even in the extreme heat, most people have at least got access to a fan. We have family in Baghdad who, thanks to the mess left by the various recent wars and invasions haven't even got that, thanks to the non-existant electricity supply and extensive bombings which raised most of the important infrastructure to the ground and, despite much posturing and draining of resources, has yet to be re-built ! Its 60 degrees + in the height of the summer -think of them !!!
