Why 'Bump To The Top'?

'Bump To The Top' (BTTT) is a convention used on forums and bulletin boards to ensure that threads which contain important information or instructions remain visible.

In the context of this board, I would judge that this would not be necessary unless a post has had no response for about 12 hours or more - that's how long it takes for a thread to 'slip off the bottom, and onto page 2', on average. Possibly less, if you're not 'logged in', as fewer threads are shown 'per page'.

There is, in my opinion, nothing to be gained from posting a BTTT within an hour or so of the last post - constant repetition is likely to annoy readers, so that they don't even look at the thread anymore (Well - that's the effect that it has on me ) - It's simply counter-productive.

Just my opinion...

Just thought i would post on this BTTT.and also ask why is it that all the events are not just posted onto the events section?? It seems thats all thats being posted of late.so and so no at such and such bar.!! Is it that they are frightened people do not look?

I don't think that there are any rules as such, but what might cause a problem is constantly, repetitively 'BTTT-ing' a thread every hour or so - it really doesn't need doing until a thread is about to 'slide off the bottom' onto page 2 - and only then if you think that it is of sufficient importance to keep it in full view, despite the fact that no-one is bothering to post responses on it anymore

The title of this thread was intended to be rhetorical, and the first post should have actually answered the question! - I started the thread with intent to inform, not criticize or seek answers...

Once everyone has lost interest, I will be perfectly happy to see it slide off, & disappear into Forum Heaven
