We have two SKY boxes, one is HD, We have bought a Freesat card from SKY (but haven't activated it yet). We had hoped to carry on paying the SKY subscription but we think this will cause too many problems, plus the cost would be too great.

So we are left with the two boxes and the Freesat card. Anybody got any advice on how we can best use them please? Can they be used over in the TRNC? If so, what channels will they receive?

Activating the freesat card can be a little difficult. You have to ring sky but you must hide your phones id,ie;if sky see 0090 on their system you wont get activated. If you have the 4.2 dish you will get BBC 1,2,and Itv with no card in the box. I once got Channel 4 after looking at Astra Petes web pages.

I should have said, we will activate the card before we leave the UK (we still have SKY) but don't know whether to activate on the HD or other box? Or even if they will allow us to use the HD box??

Unfortunately we haven't got the room for a 4.2m dish but could site a 1.8m. If we can't use our SKY box it looks like a choice between DOPI or Digital Supreme.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a 1.8m offset dish with Sky HD installed by Iceman and get 100 channels including all the movies, sports, Channel 4, ITV etc. You only need a 4.2 if you really must have BBC, we get the BBC sport on the red button on BBC News 24 so have no need for it.

Thanks for your replies.

Coffer, do you have to pay a monthly sub please?

Smoggyjim, what size dish do you use with your SKY Freesat please? I take it there's no monthly sub involved!
