I do know what you mean, but it would also help to know the closing time.

Four of us (ex-pats) went in recently at 4.45 to have a snack and the menu was snatched away before we had time to order. When told "Food service is from 12 till 5", we pointed out it wasn't yet 5, but only copped a fishy look, in the best tradition of a Blackpool B&B landlady.

Desperately trying to think of a reason why we should go back there again.

Is this place aiming for the Basil Fawlty Award for 2010?

You obviously have an axe to grind TRNCVAGHAN!

I personally always visit when I am over (in the afternoon) and have nothing but great service, great food, great company all eminanting from the owners Chris and Sue.

I had a bar and was pissed off when people arrived early as you want to be ready not rushing around hence why I cant support your previous comment. Also if I closed late afternoon and 4 people arrived at the time you said I would have done the same thing. The customer is not always right in my book!!

No axe to grind, but very surprised that in the current economical climate there are still those of us who stick to the rules (and exceed them) so hard and fast. If the hours are 12 till 5 and you don't want to serve before 12 then that's fine, but if a customer wants something to eat at 10 minutes to 5 then that should also be fine.

I suppose that after one has lived here for a few years one becomes used to restaurants owned by TCs and Pakistanis who bend over backwards to serve their customers and who actually do think that the customer is always right.

For goodness sake...why can't people read the signs which give opening hours....just moan, moan, moan. TRNCVaughan don't you have anything positive to say about anything or anybody ? For your information the notice says that food orders are taken until 4 o/c. yes, that's 4 o/c, so 4.45 is NOT an option.

The Hut is a grand place to eat and imbibe with a great view and excellent service. Don't let the contrary, moaning minnies like TRNCV put you off what should be an enjoyable time.

We have arrived a bit early for a drink at the Hut and just had a seat at the bar & read the papper for 10 minutes - they have to open up, bring supplies in from the car etc - it's a beautiful setting to sit & wait! Some days they are so busy (as the food is sooo good) that they probably have to stop serving a little early as they've sold out of most things - also it's been so hot lately who can blame them for calling it a day after serving 60 - 70 lunches! The opening times are posted on this forum so why not turn up in good time! (I believe they also take bookings)

Fabulous food served by lovely people in a fantastic setting!

MSG 11

I did see a sign that said "Food served until 5 o'clock". Why confuse the issue by saying that, when you have written somewhere else that last food orders are taken until 4 o'clock? I also can't understand why menus were still on tables and the bar at 4.45 if they had taken their last order at 4. Wouldn't you assume, under the circumstances, that food orders were still being taken?

I am not complaining about the food, either its quantity or quality, as I didn't get a chance to try it!!

Thank you all for your comments!

To confirm, we open at 12 noon (not before) and the kitchen closes at 5pm so LAST ORDERS FOR FOOD MUST BE PLACED BY 4.45pm. The majority of the food served at The Hut is home made so at some point we have to close the kitchen to replenish stock.

I am sorry if the blackboard is misleading, it is not intentional, we will alter it to make sure it is crystal clear to everyone!

TRNC Vaughan I would be more than happy to receive The Basil Fawlty Award for 2010. Please drop it in when you are passing, who knows I might even buy you a drink!

Look forward to seeing you all soon!

Sue (Blackpool landlady!!!)

NB: From Friday we will be closing at 8pm.

msg 20,

I'm not with you here. Are you suggesting that being busy is something unusual and needs to be allowed for by the customers?

Geejay,

So the sign that says "food orders are taken until 4 o'clock" is accompanied by another sign that says "kitchen closes at 5pm so LAST ORDERS FOR FOOD MUST BE PLACED BY 4.45pm." So 4.45 IS an option then.

I'm glad you are not confused, because I am.

Sounds like a great place, and I'm planning to call in for lunch, while we are over for our second visit next week. How do we get there from Alsancak?

Mr TRNC Vaughn...you just seem to keep going trying to undermine THE HUT

The Hut is the busiest place on the Lapta strip and if you as a sad little person want to try and slag it off well then thats up to you!!!!

Jimmy,

Everyone to their own but all TRNCVAUGHAN has done is show what a winger he is!!

Why does he not start writing for the local press as PUBSPY!! If he did all bars would be complained about and he might get some satisfaction trying to undermine peoples good work as obviously he has no mates who complain with him!!

Hope he doesn't give the Hut another try as it's a great place usually full of fun people - he (TRNC Vaughan) seems a bit on the miserable side for the HUT! lol

Maggie

ps to Chris & Sue, my cars been poorly but as soon as it's out of ICU I'll be down for my lunch - save me some of those chillie prawns!!!

The Hut is a great place to while away a few hours, but-----------------

the food is too good

the portions are too big

the prices are too fair

the Blackpool landlady will insist on asking how you are and is everything ok

the barman always gives excellent service.

Life is a bitch at times, but someone has to make sacrifices I'm afraid, guess I may have to go again tomorrow, ah well, onwards and upwards !!

well i have to say hand on heart, we try to get to see chris and sue on our day off. i love the place and sue god love her will try to do what guido wants. i love going to see them just wish i could do it more. Its really hard here as people do not book, you cant keep running out to buy things. Please bear in mind no cash n carrys so we cant load up, also the food goes off very quickly so everything has to be bought fresh on the day. its not easy but i have to say i take my hat off to chris and sue xx

Chris & Sue,

msg 23

It was Geejay in msg 11 that said:

"For your information the notice says that food orders are taken until 4 o/c. yes, that's 4 o/c, so 4.45 is NOT an option."

I don't know who Geejay is or whether he/she is right or wrong.

I'm sure the food is great and the portions are brilliant and the hosts are lovely, etc., etc. its only the opening/closing hours that are confusing me. I'm not knocking the Hut or their food it's just that I don't like being messed around with in places where I want to spend my money.

brins, my hubby can muck up ham egg and chips, you end up with mushy chips, hard boiled eggs, and curled up ham!!!!

Think he did deliberately so he doesnt have to cook!

come on the main road towards the lapta strip. pass the sign for gardens of babel then when you get to the sign for lapta, the hut is on the opposite side of the road (the sea side, right). there is a sign outside.

enjoy your lunch, its great.
