reply to mess 4

when I took my car to my dealer to kindly do the rd tax while i waited he came back with a tax for 275tl

he said that because of no record of speeding fines the rd tax was reduced ,that does not mean it will be repeated again as my daughter got a speeding fine of 198 lira ps the car is in my name the fine was for 08 nov, my dealer is ucoz in lefkosa where I bought my car from , my car ia a 1500cc swift so i guess i expect to pay approx 475 as i did the first yr lets see

Last year was my first experience of taxing a car which was done by the dealer, it cost 809.28TL which I thought was excessive!! I know it is calculated on kirb weight, mine is a 1490cc Toyota Allex 2006 ex demo, weight on road tax says 1100.00KG on the tax disc.

Does anyone know do you pay extra for the first registration road tax? Thanks, Mrs S.

MrsSnakes,

Not as far as I know - you do get a discount for 'no traffic offences' (including speeding) in the previous year, which presumably doesn't apply if you haven't had the car the previous year, and also discounts for older cars; e.g. first registered in TRNC over 5 years ago, first registered in TRNC over 10 years ago.

Diesels cost more to tax than petrol.

Crazy system!

MrsSnakes .. I have a Toyota Spacio .. 1490cc 1100kg ..

I paid 257TL .. With the reduction for a "Clean car" ..

If yours is less than 5 years registered in TRNC should certainly be less than 400TL

Dear Mrs Snakes,

When we paid your road tax it included the first registration, which is why we always sell our cars 'on the road' so that you do not incur that extra expense. You will find that this years will be much cheaper, approximately 350TL.

Ah thanks Hugh.....did not understand 'first registration'.........can you please explain as only familiar with road tax in the UK and have always paid the actual tax for the year in the UK, when I have bought new or secondhand cars. You said you always sell your cars 'on the road' so you do not incur that extra expense, without going to fish out my paperwork, did I not pay the 809.28TL additionally to the cost of the vehicle?

No problem, there is an extra 4% road tax payable on first registration, which is taken from the value of the car, and no you didn't pay the 809.28 TL, we did. As İ said we sell our vehicles 'on the road' which means the first years road tax (inlcuding first registration), the transfer of the car into your name, 3 years M.O.T and 3 years emmisions test, the only extra you will have paid would be your insurance.

Best Regards
