Lilli,

It was stolen in 1966 and a dog called Pickles is credited with finding it!

no i was wrong it was Rangers they won each game 2-1. No woder Leeds went the way they did, any english team losing to 'jocks' do not deserve to be in top leagues!!!

Newlad,

I am glad that although you support a team at the wrong end of the South Lancs Road. You are a bit educated!!

We Scots are SCOTSmen/SCOTSwomen a SCOTCH is a drink that is well claimed to be ours.

So well done Paul, after that moment of brilliance you may go back to your bubble world of the 'Theatre of Dreams' and give a response about the team that owns the South Lancs Road haha!!

Ang,

Although i still support United i have managed to break out of the "bubble world" and now attend games at Giigg Lane following the breakaway team F.C.United of Manchester,

The first time Leeds Utd were in the European Cup they were knocked out by the other Scottish team, the better one. Celtic won away 1-0 and home 2-1. in the semis, !972 I think. Mark Hateley scoring both games.

Can't recall the last team to beat Man C in Euro semi, can you Japeal?

I think AC Milan beat Leeds in Cup Winners Cup final. The ref was banned for life for some of his decisions. Leeds are still trying to get that result overturned

Spot on Scoty, Mark scored at Elland Road and again at Ibrox, for Rangers, both goals from outside box over Likic's head.

Mark later played for Leeds, summat his dad Tony refused to do, preferring Everton.

Celtic did beat Leeds in semi, 1-0 at Leeds, 2-1 at Parkhead, after Bremner opened the scoring with a stunner.

Tony

Newlad, Brid's ok, just far enuf away from 'ull 0

Think it was a guy called Houton. May have been Billy. A frequent trivial sport question.

BTW - all the Malmo team were Swedes - I think

For success it must be Fergie - unfortunately have to say that.

Mind you, he is a Scot, like Shankly and quite a few other successful managers.

Shame England can't produce a 'good' manager!!!

Yes the answer to who was the two English managers competing in amajor European final was indeed Roy Hodgson,

I think Bob Paisley has to rate as a good English Manager- most successful as per trophies to seasons in charge- even Fergie is a 'close second' there!!

Again re msg 40 -

Forrest beat Malmo in 79 - correct answers before asking questions please!!

Much of the success during the 1970’s were due to new tactics and training methods brought to the club by English manager Bob Houghton who managed the club between 1974 and 1980. Chairman Eric Persson was succeeded in 1974 by Hans Cavalli-Björkman. After a period of respectable positions in the league under the management of Keith Blunt and Tord Grip in the early 1980’s Roy Hodgson took over as manager in 1985.

I stand corrected,

but why then on all the Europa Cup run in did all the commentators say that Roy Hodgson has been there before and knows the pressure of a European Final.

Think this answers it - Hodgson was manager of Inter then -

The 1996–97 season saw Inter finish 3rd and reach the 1997 UEFA Cup Final, losing on penalties over two legs.

Its been a long time coming and I hope it comes soon for English Football.

I am not a big fan of the foreign imports and agree with a quota to save the English Team.

I read an article that showed on an average round of Premier League games, 20 teams 11 players and 3 subs total 280 players only something like 40-50 were English.

English Cricket suffered in the 1970s and now there are as many non english players that wins are welcome but few and far between, take the last 2 Ashes apart, England were trounced 5 nil in Aussie in between- how many non aussies ply their trade in state cricket there?

Rugby I fear for as well both codes as Im sorry but the Polynesians are big but not a good standard, and all the ex All Blacks/Wallabies/Springboks come over for a payday and in some cases tactical experience for a couple of seasons and wheres the local youngsters who do really well in the youth championships- warming the bench!!

Liverpool as an example must bring on youth!!
