Any idea on best way to deter the little blighters !!! One of our neighbours has apparently been feeding vixen and her cubs and now they are not cute little cubs they were. They are becoming increasingly brave - twice last night we had patio doors open and fox calmly walked along the patio and straight up to the patio doors - he/she was within inches of coming in. If it was the same one both times then chasing it away did not deter it - 1 hour later it was back.

Our other neighbour came into her back garden the othere night and found 1 by the pool then later on her balcony.

Any ideas ???

At this time of year they are probably looking for water, try leaving a bowl of water further and further away from the house each day to discourage them.

The next human that they approach may not be as kind.

This is supposedly genuine, some chicken farmers ask for hair cuttings from local barbers and put it in cloth or muslin bags, and hang it round the perimeter of their property, another way apparently is to get the men in your life to wee round the perimeter, as the scent of men puts them off!!

Dont know if this works, Ive just 'googled' it!!

Are they posing a threat to you? They're not exactly wolves and they're not gonna eat you. If your neighbours have been feeding the cubs since they were born, then I'm afraid that these foxes have no natural fear of humans. I used to work in a wildlife sanctuary and the injured foxes that came in had to be kept away from the public, due to the fact that if they lose the fear of humans, they cannot be re-release into the wild. We also had 8 foxes that we called the 'silly tames', as they were destined to remain at the sanctuary as they had become pets..only as they were unafraid of humans.

If they're really bothering you, get a hire powered water pistol and next time they come around fire that at them. All going well they should scarper, also works a treat for disobedient dogs...I know I have six!

Alternatively, live and let live..and hope that they don't turn up at the 'wrong door' one day as I'm sure the locals wouldn't be as tolerant. The foxes are usually few and far between as during the hunting season they take a battering as does everything else that moves, crawls or flies.

Personally I'd be delighted if they visited me.

Appreciate all your replies - as an animal lover (who does lots of animal voluntary work here in TRNC/ and also used to back in UK ) i can appreciate foxes in their "natural" environment (which back in UK sadly bacame Towns.Cities) - but by people making them Hunan friendly that is what is likely to happen here -but am fed up with having to guard back door whenever it is open of a night - sick of the VILE smell of their waste deposited in the garden (along with whatever it carries) and worried that 1 or 2 will turn into much many more ! Its ok for those of you that are not being pestered by them - i would willingly " catch" them and bring them to you - please let me (and my neighbours - who are also sick of the mess/smell they make - let alone having to keep everything locked in case they venture indoors) know your address and

we will try and bring them to you.

Animal lovers we are but for the right reasons - these foxes are now reliant on iHumans feeding them - how is that going to help them ? !!! At the end of the day they are, and should be, natural/wild animals that need to live in their natural WILD enviroment and adapt accordingly.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but it is also no fun - ask any person back in UK towns who have foxes in their area - it is tje same situation in our area. lovely to look at - but in their own backyard (in 5 years only seen them in the orchard - no building yet in the orchard or around so their" habitat" locale has not changed ) Just that they haven't had to look for food and are now looking for the easy way that they are used to -thanks well meaning Humans.

the zofus,

At our previous house we had a fox vixen and cubs, They were beautiful and playful on the lawn. The formed their home under our shed. Unfortunatley we also had a family of pheasants. Equally beautiful, a real joy to behold. The pheasants dissappeared.

We rang the RSPCA who said they would collect them, but in the end we would not disclose our address.

We subsequently poured bleached water over the den (when they were not in) and drove them out into the park, which was behind our home. Very sad, and we are animal lovers,

but nature can be cruel!

I go to car boot sales each sunday which are in the countryside, we witness lots of road kill unfortunately fozxs who are either too slow or the drivers are too fast. It is such a shame to see these animals dead. I live in an urban area and I unfortunately saw one of our foxes killed last sunday it was so small so presumably it was slow and in the wrong place.

Hi Jock,

Yes it is. Didn't I mention that wackyjim and yourself would be required for furniture removal. I was hoping to use the donkey, but it was oh so tasty!

If you two thought that I was going to buy you a pint without something in return, you must think I was bonkers! Just think how thirst provoking furniture removal can be.!!

The fox hat.?............just at the bottom of Esentepe bank.
