What is the biggest or unusual item you have brought over on your flight? I have heard of people bringing out Televisions and even a rotary line.

I brought a large Dyson over for my friend last year.

I would like to bring a rotary line myself but although I know someone did this I don't want it taken off me at the airport.

A water softener and kitchen taps, desktop computer with flat screen. A frozen leg of lamb and several packs of smoked salmon and serano ham, a couple of packs of butchers choice pork sausages, some Stilton and Cambazola cheese. All neatly packed in suitcase. Not together I might add.

Rotary washing line and a pool cover (about 6 foot by 2ft round) twice - n extra charge from CTA

Only time we've been stopped at Ercan customs was with the pool covers - I think they were just interested in what it was !

Ceiling fans, microwave, dvd player, garden vacuum, rotary washing line, lampshades, in fact everything bar the kitchen sink. Never had a problem with airlines and never paid excess baggage.

Two Years ago my friend Irene (Boglefan) brought over 2 full sides of salmon, square sausage, black pudding, tattie scones, scotch pies and cadburys cream eggs for hubby. Her suitcase was so heavy she brought hardly any clothes and had to keep washing them!

One large astral telescope and a mountain bike for me and I did not get charged for either at Ercan or at Gatwick despite the rest of my baggage being slightly overweight.

Roy on BA he said you will never get that through as hand luggage I will put it through for you , luck on the day with who you get I think ! he was so good to us with our 100kg couldn't believe it

Hi, Some years ago we actually took the largest Trampoline you can buy via Heathrow to Ercan. It was the 1st Trampoline to be seen in NC. It took up 4 Luggage trolleys , boy , were we popular at the check in desks !!!

Also took up most of the Minibus going to Lapta.

Anyway, we erected this huge Trampoline on the beaches at Deniz Kizi's , Mare Monte , Acapulco etc. All the kids loved it but nobody wanted to buy it even at cost price. Eventually, it found a home at a childrens playcentre in Lefkosa where the London TC paid with post dated cheques which ALL CLEARED.

Similarly, rotary line, ceiling fans, chandelier!

Vaccum cleaner, safe, pressure washer and some heavy duty drains and covers (to go under our perimeter wall) so as to alleviate any future flooding of our garden next spring!

I've brought the usual suitcase full of saucepans and a huge flippin' fan for the car, quite tame really. But we did once give a lift into Kyrenia to a guy I was sitting next to on the plane who had an outboard motor for his boat.

The most amazing hand luggage I have ever seen was at Istanbul airport where people were sitting on huge great bigs sacks of stuff and one person even had a car windscreen with rope lashed round it that he carried onto the plane.

Oh Lordy! Did these people own their own plane?? Who did they fly with to bring such large and strange items??

Good to hear of all the different things though. This time we've got lights, pillows, rotary line (just purchased ) The husband wants to bring a bike over next time.

I'm looking forward to the day we can travel with just hand luggage

I bought my air con over from istanbul when I came as at that time they were very expensive and I needed it here!! Luckily, I had a contact in import/export so I only paid 1 dollar per cubic metre!! I also bought my TV, all my books, fans, hoover, carpets, in fact nearly everything apart from the furniture, which I sold before I came. And my 2 cats flew with me in the cabin as hand luggage with CTA!

I am amazed people are allowed to take such big items.

Do you have to get permission before hand and do you have

to take them to where you check in the cases.

I do think it depends with which airline you are flying with, I know that some airlines are quite specific on the size of goods and how many bags/items that you are putting through. Also, you need to take into account the weight you are putting through, i.e. anything over your allowance will be charged extra per kg.

May be a good idea to check the small print before making any decision!

Where to start?

Gas BBQ, guitar, gazebo, garden table and chairs, yamaha keyboard, garden vac, henry vacuum cleaner, etc. etc. Even got 1m roll of garden screening through hand luggage at Heathrow a couple of weeks back!

Never paid extra. Mixture of carriers (BA, CTA, Cyprus Airways). Managed to blag if over weight

Nothing ventured
