NCFP has an article about this plus the 11 million TL tax bill he received just before the April 2009 election, in which he supported the winning UBP

This is an interesting piece written by Craig Murray in January 2006

I was head of the Cyprus Section of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office when Asil Nadir of Polly Peck fled the UK while on bail (an old scandal you could google).

Nadir was in a hotel in North Cyprus, and I was discussing with MI6 a plan to kidnap him and bring him in to one of the UK sovereign base areas on the island.

The plan was blocked because, in a case recent at that time, the House of Lords had ruled that anyone taken unlawfully and brought into our jurisdiction could not be held and tried.

It ran through my mind again when considering the Athens case. The joy of extraordinary rendition is, of course, that you are not bringing them in to this country, where they would have the protection of the courts, but you're kidnapping them and taking them to places where they can be abused and tortured.

Returning back down memory lane to the Nadir case, I am convinced there was complicity by the authorities

Returning back down memory lane to the Nadir case, I am convinced there was complicity by the authorities in his escape. The police surveillance unit was stood down for the bank holiday weekend to avoid the expense of paying them overtime (I am not making this up). He plainly knew this was going to happen, because within minutes he was in a fast car (driven by a professional racing driver) who drove him to an airfield where a private plane was waiting with engines running.

There were many in the then political establishment who had taken Nadir's shilling and didn't want him in the witness box. That is why I was looking at extreme measures to get him back.

But you will have to wait until I have finished my second book, and it's been banned, before you learn more of that

Where is your booked banned, UK or TRNC? You could always get it published in Australia, they like ex-spies!

The only Craig Murray I could find was an ex-British Ambassador not a bricklayer!

I think if you re read Suffolk's post you will find that he is quoting Craig Murray. Suffolk, as far as I am aware is not Craig Murray.

Any chance of an introduction to The TRNC auditors of Polly Peck?

My balance sheet needs the benefit of a bit of creative accounting.

I dont think we will see Azil Nadir again in the UK!

There is a well scripted book by his Sister, Bilge Nevzat ghost written by Gill Fraser called 'The Turquoise Conspiracy' which is well worth a read. However, Ms Nevzat is a very rude person who does not reply to posted letters nor emails on a subject far away from the concerns of her Brother. No accounting for common courtesy!

Liz

The family seek public sympathy yet act in a discourteous manner. No excuse, just a bunch of nouveau riche social climbers with no class!

Conviction quashed, Liz.

QUOTE:

After his flight two associates of Mr Nadir were convicted of offences but both were cleared on appeal. His former secretary, Elizabeth Forsyth, had her conviction for money laundering connected to the Polly Peck case quashed. She now lives in northern Cyprus. Peter Dimond, the pilot who flew Mr Nadir out of Britain, was also cleared after the Appeal Court found that Mr Nadir’s bail had lapsed at the time he left.

Am reading 'Asil Nadir - the rise and fall of Polly Peck' by David Barchard (from Kyrenia libray). Unfortunately, the story stops in 1992, but I noticed there is another book about him on the shelf and I hope that goes to a later date. It is fascinating reading and gives a great insight into life in North Cyprus in Nadir's childhood and trading days.

Craig Murray obviously didn't do his homework. Nadir didn't flee. His bail lapsed. Simple fact. Are there charges outstanding? Who is saying? And the TRNC, with the Kemal Kemalzade case, showed it will work for justice - it's handed a lot of rogues back to the UK despite there not being an extradition treaty - but Turkish Cypriots will be tried here and sentenced here.

Nadir has been pushing this line for ages. Nothing new in the stories.

Where is Asil Nadir at the moment? Does anyone know where exactly he lives right now?
