I do not find this funny, I have worked within the older peoples field for many years and they are the most wonderful people to work with, but like any other groups of people some have their mental health problems.

Nurseawful shame on you, for reducing yourself from the professional person I am sure you are, to making fun about the Older generation, is there any need to use the term old b.....rds, remember you will be old very soon.

I know Chris you do a lot of good work, but please don't allow this forum to remove your professionalism.

Please see the post for what it is, just a bit of fun.

Nobody is making fun of the older generation, just commenting on a song.

You will also note that Chris referred to 'old buggers' and not old b***ards as you infer. I trust that you have heard the term 'silly old bugger' - often used in a light hearted sense to describe an older person. In fact my Mum uses the term to describe herself and her friends from time to time.

Lighten up mate

Paul,

I have worked in the NHS and Social Services for many years, and I do not find ant type of disrespect acceptable,

you may, I don't.

Regards your comment "lighten up" I am known for being very laid back, but I cannot stand disrespect to anyone young or old, You say old buggers, do you know the meaning of the word "bugger" the famous Irish author Oscar Wilde was charged with sodomy, buggery.

So please don't use these words lightly

As Paul rightly pointed.. out I did not use the word that you were thinking of. And as you should know that almost .all nurses have a warped sense of humour as sometimes it is the only way of protecting their sanity.

Chris You can have your warped sense of humour, how can you say your protecting their sanity? who's sanity are you protecting theirs or yours ? by making jokes about older people on here, sorry I don't think you are respecting them.

Richard message 3 There is far too much disrespect, I am not religious as you are suggesting, but was always brought up to respect all people irrespective of their colour, race, size, sexuality, religion etc,.

So please respect my opinion.

Your 'Holier than thou' attitude, exemplified by your posting protestations, will not ingratiate you anywhere, because no one is impressed by your obvious and capricious insincerity!

The WARNING is here for everyone to see - you chose not to heed it, resulting in your being offended - you've only yourself to blame!

Do try, in future, to stifle your unwarranted and sanctimonious criticism for more worthy causes - thank you!

James,

Firstly I stated 'sadly' I had came across people like the man in the song. In a perfect world this would not happen.

As to my sense of humour when you have had to deal with death and dying amongst other things, telling relatives their loved ones has passed on, old and young. Believe me you do have to using a coping mechanism and humour is often the only tool you have on hand.

Not sure what you did in the NHS (what did you do?) but ask anyone including myself what it is like running a busy ward often to the point in a 12 hour shift that you don't have time to go to the toilet!

My sense of humour never stopped me from giving excellent care or being professional.

As to the word b.....r that I used, I called my 2 year old son the same under my breath for being mischievous and I love him dearly.

NounSingular

bugger (plural buggers)

1.(obsolete) A heretic.

2.(British law) Someone who commits buggery; a sodomite.

The British Sexual Offences Act of 1967 is a buggers' charter. (see Are judges politically correct?)

3.(slang, pejorative) A foolish or worthless person or thing;

He's a silly bugger for losing his keys.

The bugger's given me the wrong change.

My computer's being a bit of a bugger.

4.(slang, UK, India) Someone viewed with affection: chap.

How are you, you old bugger?

5.(slang, dated) A damn, anything at all.

I don't give a bugger how important you think it is.

6.(slang, British) Someone who is very fond of something

I'm a bugger for Welsh cakes.

7.(slang, USA - West) A rough synonym for whippersnapper.

What is that little bugger up to now?

The word has a whole host of connotations and really depends on the context that it is used in. Most connotations are of a lighthearted nature, which was clearly Chris's intention.

Lighten up !!

Chris message 21, I also was in charge of a very busy Cardiac/ intensive care ward and worked 12 hour shifts, on nights, and has you say not having time to have a minute, I like you, had to deal with all types of people, often dealing with 2 or 3 cardiac arrests a night, so I know the pressure's Nurses are under.

Having to deal with grieving relatives and often in the absence of a doctor, having to inform people of their loss, so I understand the need to try and have a lighter moment, if I miss read your message then I am sorry.

Tenakoutou, Message 17 I do not consider myself to be holy and I take exception in you suggesting I am not sincere in what I say.

Thanks James

jamestalbot/Msg 23:

You can take exception to whatsoever you see fit - your perogative; but the blatant audacity you displayed with your churlish and uncalled for remonstrations towards 'Nurseawful' in Msg 3 has definitely not endeared you to the majority of 'posters' on this thread.

' if I miss read your message then I am sorry.' - what a climb down cop out!
