Hi,

Moving over to North Cyprus in Aug and have a UK contract with vodafone....Is the coverage in North Cyprus good enough that I can just carry on using my same mobile network to make calls back to the UK?

Thank you for any help

Vodafone will release you from your contract if you contact them and say you are moving abroad.

You can also use on-line unlocking services to unlock your phone. Good advice about keeping a spare phone. I bought a cheap pay as you go phone with £10 credit and we keep it topped up and take it with us whenever we go across to the Greek side or back to the UK.

Good luck with the move.

Thanks everyone.......I rang vodafone and they have added passport to my contract(for no extra charge) so I can make calls to the UK, meaning i only pay 75p connection when I make a call and the rest of my call will be free(up to 60mins)...I have 600mins a month. Texting will be charged at 11p per text. Thank you about the advice of a back up phone with a local pay as you go.....

Again, thanks for all the info and advice....

Kind regards

Simon

Passport is only valid in EU countries!!! So it does not cover you in North Cyprus!! Most of the people on the switchboard there don't know the difference between north & south. Give them another ring and explain that it is not an EU country. (worked for vodafone for 14 years!!)

Get your phone unblocked and buy a Tel Sim or Turk cell pay as you go card you wil make a big saving

to get your phone unblocked most shopping Malls have a stall that will do it

But do have it done in the UK cost about £ 10.00 max

You will still be able to usre the UK network card it it as well

Good Luck

Bear in mind how much YOU will pay if anyone rings you on your vodaphone number, get a cheap phone in TRNC and keep it topped up for everyday use, perhaps keep your UK phone for a while if you need to leave a contact number for emergencies etc.

Smity, all

Is it possible to have a contract with Turk, would perfer not to keep having to top up my phone.....and will set up Skype for home. Both myself and my wife will be working in north cyprus and there for the long term so contract would be a little easier for me. Do Turk have price plans etc for monthly contracts??

Sorry for all the questions..

Thank you for your help everyone

Anyone who travels regularly to the TRNC should buy a cheap £9.99 Tesco mobile, doesnt need unlocked and can be left in your place when you are over with a Turkcell SIM card in it.

actually take two cheap open mobile phones so you can communicate with your partner or call your cyprus phone where ever you are staying from where ever you are in the area if you need to call someone home (kyrenia) turkcel is what i use and I keep my london mobile so if anyone calls you from the Uk it will only cost them and not you too if they call your turkcel number

text them to call you or give a few rings then they know its you and call back they must call back to your turkcell number I do that

in the beginning we used to commnicate with uk mobile phones and the bill ran into hundreds

then once my daughter said call my turkish number and she would'nt get charged and only me

you can call london on your turkcell number too or text too but get them to call you back and the bill be one way ,the one that calls you from the UK

also if you go to the south side use the Uk mobile that will be cheaper to use both sides

Hi Basheer,

Going to only use my current phone as emergency and get myself a cheap top up mobile when I get to north cyprus so I can txt and ring the UK when not using skype.....Would a local top up sim in north cyprus still mean the person I ringing going to get charged for the call as well??

Thanks for your help, really grateful...
