It's 23:35 and there's a storm of a party somewhere. Can hear the bass and see the spotlight in the sky. Where is it? What's going on?

We stayed in a villa near the night clubs in Karsiyaka and there was a spot light there which came from one of the night clubs, but we never heard any noise.

Why do they have to have these stupid laser lights. It is spooking my dogs and is dangerous for the birds. What is the point of it.

I got woken by dogs and cockrels at about 4am this morning and went out into the garden and saw what I thought was a huge searchlight scanning the sky!! It seemed to be coming from the sea side of Çatalköy. Its not even pretty! So who is going to "admire" it at 4 o'clock in the morning? The sky at night used to be so black and full of bright stars here in Cyprus - but hey-ho gotta keep up with the times and lets face it- if you have the money for a huge laser light why not flaunt it.......................

What about the fireworks at 12.30 am plus the continued beat of some form of music, we thought it was Malpas hotel

Rocker - not sure about that as I didn't hear it! But at least fireworks are pretty and eventually end, this laser was just like a big searchlight.

What about the fireworks after midnight then? Loud music, spotlight, fireworks late at night equals no sleep because even though the fireworks stop the dogs around about don't stop barking! We heard it on Friday night as well. Is this going to be a permanent weekend thing? Is it definitely Shayna Beach Club?

Same here. All the dogs were spooked all around and the fireworks might be pretty but it sounded like a war zone.

As for the laser light in the sky that also had the dogs going berserk and yes, as asked earlier, what is the point of it?

AND this afternoon what do we have to look forward to? Peace being shattered by the drunks down the road at the cafe bar who think we all want to hear their out of tune renditions on the karioke machine at full volume whilst in our own gardens.

What was the quiet side of town is now turning into Blackpool or Southend!!

Moan over.

Come on Shayna think of the locals who live around you please.

I am from southend!! Know what you mean though, but having said that, without polystyrene burger and chip boxes and plastic pint "glasses" blowing around - not to forget vomit strewn promenade (ah, heady days) Cyprus has a way to go yet - but is slowly getting there unfortunately!!

Out of interest Kenny where do you live?

I wonder if there is there a link to loud music and the inability to spell, possibly loud music damages more than hearing. Now that would be an interesting piece of research to undertake, are you volunteering Kenny?

The fireworks are most likely because it's wedding season so won't be forever but the searchlight, who knows? I can see it from the other side of Girne - not particularly attractive but the dogs here don't seem to notice thankfully.

Kenny, I didn't!

I merely pondered at the correlation between loud music and it's effects.

You did the rest.

Nice thought Susie, but sadly we think it's a club finale thing!! They sounded like mortars exploding last night, or I should say this morning!

Gotavilla, why the aggressive attitude to Kenny? He goes there. He's allowed to, isn't he? If you have a problem, take it up with Shayna, the local municipality or the police.

On another note, is it definitely the laser beams that are upsetting dogs, or could it be the presence of unseen dogs or cats? doesn't ring true to me, but, of course, I stand to be corrected.

Who asked you to put your two pennorth in in support of Kenny? He's perfectly able to stick up for himself. Was looking for some serious answers on here and yes, of course, I'll fight my own battles and take it up with Shayna.

Don't actually understand what your second paragraph is all about! 'Unseen dogs or cats' - what do you mean?

There's loud music, booming bass, fireworks and a lazer beam up in the sky. That's what's upsetting the dogs (who said anything about cats?) and making them bark. the loud music, booming bass, fireworks and lazer beam are upsetting me too and I'm going to try to do something about it - presumably without your support or that of 'Kenny'.

Why the aggression? It's not helping, is it?

The second paragraph, if you read it properly, suggests there might be unseen (by human owners) cats or dogs lurking. Simple really.

Are you sure it is Shayna and not Cornara. I went down by the beach at Cornaro today and they are definitely putting up a new lighting system.

You choose to live on a holiday island, you will get holidaymakers who want to get the best of their two weeks in the sun, sorry but that is the price we have to pay for living here.

Maybe so hattikins, but that doesn't mean those of us who live here all year round should have our quality of life ruined.

What pleasure does that searchlight lazer give and to whom?

We all enjoy music but why does it have to be so loud you can hear it over 5km away?

Gotavilla shame you can't make Midsummer House next Monday we could have compared the effects of loss of sleep.

What do you make of tonight's artist at the cafe bar? Let's hope he finishes earlier than Shayna.

Now now Deniz1 you know where temptation leads!! x

The island relies on tourism, that is a fact, and sadly that will impact on the lives of residents here, both ex pat and TC, if the entertainment goes on after midnight then take it up with the local mayor, police or the district office in town, other than that it is a case of put up or shut up I'm afraid.

message 44 we have chilled out and accepted the way of life here so why are all my TC neighbours complaining, like us, about the noise pollution and the visual pollution emanating from the sea side in Catalkoy?

I'm putting my money where my mouth is and complaining to the authorities this very morning. All those who say 'put up with it' obviously aren't being disturbed by it. It can, apparently, be heard FIVE miles away! Have fun, yes, of course, but cut it off my midnight. Not fireworks at 1am. If I'm the only one complaining nothing will happen but if others go along to the beleyidisi the complaint may be taken seriously.

Panchocat: I was at Midsomer House on Friday night and could hear the loud music all the way home - but didn't know where it was coming from. Still going when we got home and just got off to sleep and the fireworks started! When you say the 'cafe bar' is that what it's called? I don't know where you mean.

Message 45 and 47, go along to the Catalkoy Beledye and make your complaints, they are very reasonable and will listen to what you say and do something about it.

We all know it is a holiday island and most tourists do not want loud, loud, loud.!!! This is the point you must try to put over. They come here for a restful holiday and the peace and quiet of the island. Unfortunately the people who run these places have little clue of tourism, and try and turn it into Ayia Nappa. You only have to listen to all the cars with the music turned up and the windows open, even in this heat. It's all a question of showing what you have and what you can do. When I was a kid, it would have been called being a "notice box ".We have to sit indoors every night with all the windows and doors shut so we can get on with our lives, it is so noisy in Ozankoy, with all the so called singers. Don't they have bathrooms to sing in?

Joking apart, it used to be idyllic here when we came to the North in 1983.

Gotavilla, it's the one in the block of shops on the main road by kitchens R Us. At least the artiste finished at midnight last night but a peaceful night in the garden ended up with no choice but to listen to him! Generous of all these venue owners to share their entertainers with us?! I think not!!

Will go to the beleyidisi and mention it when we pay the water bill. I suspect the owner will be the second cousin 13 times removed to all those in authority, but we can but try.

Good luck this morning let me know how you get on so I can be prepared for their answers.
