Some C44 board members have malware on their computer(s) and send unwillingly/unknowingly unsolicited email to people who are or once were in their mailing list.

What to do to stop that?

The receiver can send email to the sender and ask to stop the spamming.

When the sender doesn't seem to care or only tells you to delete the spam - it's polite to send a stronger email to the sender and ask to have his/her computer checked for the malware. Never mind who does that as long as it's done.

If that doesn't help one can send an email (which I do) to the spammer and promise/threaten to reply the next time with an adequate piece of malware also.

It usually helps and I wouldn't know what else to do.

Do you?

There's plenty of 'recourse measures' to be sourced in 'Altavista'!

Hans,

If you deliberately send, or threaten to send malware, you not only run the risk of committing an offence, you are acting in a worse manner than the unwitting, ignorant, stupid perpetrator - who at least has the excuse of being an ignorant prat - you don't!

The appropriate course of action is to send email 1, as you suggest and openly copy in their email provider, and/or ISP - whichever one you can determine - mention in the email that you are doing this.

If the problem continues, then the 2nd email should be to the ISP / email service provider, requesting that the person's email account be discontinued - copy in the perpetrator.

If that doesn't work, call your 'friend' Brinsley

RE msg 3, keithcaley: You are of course right and if the spammer responds to my first email in a decent way - I'd be even pleased to help solve the the problem if I can. But. If the reply on my first email does not indicate ANY interest in the problem (on the contrary!) I draw the line.

I like spam, particularly pleasant on warm fresh Cyprus bread with a touch of Colman's mustard and a gherkin!

Hans if you are such a hot shot on the computer, why do you need to ask for advice on how to stop spammers...surely with your 'wealth' of knowledge, you are more than able? Or is it yet just a thinly disguised attempt to get a rise out of someone here...i do wonder. Did the powers that be on Hotmail smack your wrists? Anyway, to help you with your problem of spamming, why don't you relegate the

annoying sender of such dispicable emails to your jumk box...or even better, simply block them...works for me......

Dear computer experts (msg 8 & 9). Maybe after this message you understand what is going on. Someone's computer sends (unwillingly/unknowingly) emails to people in her/his mailing list - time and time again. INCLUDING malware making the receivers' computers doing the same (unwillingly/unknowingly) to people in their mailing lists. The original SENDER should stop this on her/his computer, not the RECEIVER.

A receiver may know one or more of the new senders and don't want to block them.

I don't want to do any work to stop a sender who is not interested in solving her/his problem.

I hope you understand it now.

So once again, a title that may benefit members degenerates into a slanging match. Why?
