On behalf of Cheshire Home - The Kyrenia Rehabilitation Centre, we thank you for agreeing to have a monthly World Gourmet Dinner Nights starting 25th June.

We look forward to some mouthwatering nights starting with a French cuisine night in June followed by New Orleans Cajun night 16th July. Choice of 2 dishes from each of the 3 courses on offer. At a cost of 35tl per head, we hope that the Home will benefit greatly as The Kyrenia Rehabilitation Centre (Cheshire Home) serves disabled people in the Girne area with a range of medical and social services. It is the only facility in the Middle East region affiliated to Leonard Cheshire International and is totally self-funded.

Let us all help and support this venture and all bookings can be made direct with Liz at Guido's.

Pardon me for being a bit thick, but hopefully, grandad willing, I may be over for the July night.

Just how will Cheshire Home - The Kyrenia Rehabilitation Centre, benefit. It doesn't seem all that clear to me.

If they aren't getting a percentage then 35tl seems a bit expensive, going by the exchange rate in UK.

Message 2, There will be a raffle on the night, and a percentage of the meal cost will go to this very genuine cause.

Myself and sveral other fantastic kind people have raised almost 10,000 lira for My campaign for New Arm For Ismail, N.A.F.I.

I could not have done this without the support of Chesire Home,. and K.R.C..

In the very near future they are going to take this to the next stage and now help us to complete Ismails first arm.

For the standard of cuisine you get from Guido,s 35 lira is very very reasonable.

I have been to some charity functions here at big hotels, the tickets have been 80 lira and more, and the excuse for food that they have served you with, well I would not have given it to our cat.

Hope this helps, and look forward to seeing you at one of these functions. Kind Regards.

Wormy do you seriously think that £15 is expensive for a 3 course meal in a quality restaurant? You would pay more than that for a bog standard bottle of wine in a good UK restaurant.

I don't know if it's a "quality restaurant" or not. I haven't even been over yet, but hope to do so, often, in the near future.

The title of the thread is "Thank you - Guidos Bistro"

Nothing in the first post mentions anything that qualifies this heading. I don't intend to get involved in a "bun fight", that seems to be the norm on this forum, I think I will just go away, quietly.

I will however give my best wishes for this endeavour.

Wormy, a respectable proportion of every ticket will go to the Cheshire Home. Liz and Guido have also agreed to run a raffle for the Home. To be honest, 35TL is very reasonable for a meal of this calibre; Guido's profit will be minimal. They have done this out of the goodness of their hearts, so I think quibbling about the cost when a mediocre meal for two in Girne will cost a lot more is rather parsimonious.

The Cheshire Home will be putting on all sorts of different events in the coming months. If top class international cuisine isn't your style, perhaps one of our future events will be.

ALL WE WANT IS TO MAKE money for the charity, we will do this by donation from the cost of the meal a raffle and an auction. to get top class food from parts of the world, please bear in mind we can not get ingridents here. we have to source them, we will. please be charitable, how will they manage without our support and that of others

Thanks for the link, tootie. Now I can see what you're saying. If you read the initial post you'll see that to a stranger the raising of funds isn't made clear, that's all I asked, nothing to do with being parsimonious. No wonder there is so much acrimony on this forum if this is the norm.

My grandad's move has been held up, this side, so may not be over until August. Not sure where Guido's is in relation to Bogaz, but will try to get 70tl there for your charity. For myself, I think I'd rather not avail myself of the welcome I am sure would be warm.

Amy (Wormy) is only 19. I remember being 19 (just) and maybe 35 TL seems like a lot to her, I know it would have done to me at that age.

Amy, if you re-read the first post you will see that Guido's are being thanked for agreeing to hold the gourmet events on behalf of the charities... who will benefit from funds raised.

I would add, you can pay an awful lot more than 35TL for a meal and get an awful lot less in terms of quality. I would suggest that when you are over in the Girne (Kyrenia) region as no doubt you will be on occasion, you make time to pay a visit to Guido's in Alsancak and make up your own mind.

Tables are filling up fast, this is going to be a popular evening, so please book to save disappointment. Because Guidos are sourcing authentic ingredients, you must book.
