Three of yesterday’s TC newspapers were full of information about Sunday’s auction. (Translated by a TC friend as accurately as possible, but will stand to be corrected on any points). Kibris Star: said that as there was no buyer, the auction was called off. It reported that the Kulaksiz 5 were there to add their support. Somebody was going to bid but was persuaded against it because of the protest and the Turkish Cypriots and English joined together in applauding as he left.

Kibris: The headline stated, ‘Victims Unite!’ It said that English people were there to support the Turkish Cypriot victims. The Home Buyers’ Pressure group was also in attendance. A bidder arrived, but did not bid. He left when he saw that the people were united . Orhan Ceylan said, ‘We are not going to stop here. We are going to fight on for everyone else’. Oğuz Cedan this made me feel good and I now think I can fight on in court’. Pembe Aydoğus thanked everyone for being there and supporting them. She said, ‘Today, it is a victory for the people’. She thanked the Home Buyers’ Pressure Group for being there for them. Dilavera Ozdiaver said that off plan selling had to stop and warned everybody not to buy. He said that this has already been reported in the British press and British people are being warned not to buy. He said that this will be more damaging than the Orams’ case and that so many people are potentially losing their homes, but there are so many more cases

Yeni Düzen Headline: Trajedi (don’t think it needs translating) reported that the builders had come from Turkey with no paperwork and no permission to build. The houses were being auctioned because of the loans, but because of the people’s solidarity, they did not lose their homes. Dilavera Ozdiaver said, ‘Put your hands on your heart. Would you buy these houses knowing the situation?’ and this persuaded the only potential bidder, not to bid. The people in these apartments, like the K5 had paid for their apartments and for now are not losing their homes. They said, ‘What did we do wrong? We just wanted a home’.

Sorry! This is the continuation of the Kibris article in message 2: cases to come. He asked the government to do something now to sort out the problem. The lawyer for the construction company, Doğu Abidin, said that the apartments had been valued at a low price before the auction. He said that the auction had been called off and another date set for three months’ time. He hoped a solution would be found, but thought the court would not accept a solution. He said that their hands were tied because of the law system. He urged people who may be in the same position to check with their lawyers. He also asked the government to issue instructions to buyers to help avoid the situation in the future. The figure set for the title deeds of the apartments was 70000 TL.
