Changed the name on our electricity bill from previous villa owners to ours and guess what we were charged 280 TL! Anyone have any ideas what this is for? Asked the clerk, but all he said was it is for deposit....... Changed our name with the Belediyesi and that only cost 20TL.

I believe that the deposit is refunded once you leave/sell your property.

We have just gone through the same thing, but we were told it was 800tl ish for non citizens, or 280 with a guarantee from a citizen????

We actually got cut off as we didnt get the guarantee done in time?????

Thanks ...hope it is actually just a deposit. Though not sure if we will move to have it returned. Haven't run up any large bills, so must be a new policy.

Did not need a guarantee from anyone, just took our sale of contract down, so bootneck you may be the same, just 280TL (said with tongue in cheek....)

Presumably some of you already have an electric meter. If you didn't could you please let me know what the cost was for the meter and fitting

Thanks

When I bought our house I completely re-wired it (I am a qualifierd electrician) and got the Electric Board to come round and fit a new (higher capacity than before) meter in the new meter box I had fitted, also to run in a new line to match. They checked all my wiring before connecting me up. They came the same day I applied.

No deposit, connexion charge for what was regarded as a new installation was TL 110. No deposit.

Moral of story:

1. Be prepared to grovel.

2. Know what you are talking about.

3. Don't look affluent expat.

4. Speak a little Turkish, even if just greetings, thank you, etc.

They were very helpful and did a good job quickly and cheaply.

Even with the help of a TC local well connected person our 5 villas have just cost us £1310 each to KIBTEK for connection and project and yes the 250+ytl deposit. It also took 5 weeks from them having the money to connect because they had run out of meters! All in all some very poor management going on here and a good lesson in how to make us pay exhorbitent fees in a "hobsons choice" scenario.

Me personaly, from my personal view, from the time I paid my deposit of 280ytl to the time of fitting the meter and electric conection was five days.

The deposit for connections of electric is 280 tl for citizens, same amount to non citizens with a guarantee of citizen and if it hadnt changed 280x3 for non citizens on their own.Whatever the amount hold on to that receipt,if you change address or move on one day, you'd be able to claim that money back.

As for the meter charge..........it is the same amount whatever nationality you are.......is it alot?????LIKE HELL IT IS,but if one wants it,one must pay for it.

as for the msg 1;

Please get your facts right before starting another thread that is NOT true.

As I understand

I was imformed Oh by the way I had to part with 560TYL the reason was that sometimes people sell on the porperty and leave an unpaid bill so this way they get some if not all money owed.

As previously said you will get your money back if you sell your property

Keep your original recipt

Last year we went to Kibtec with all our relevant documents and after spending the day there we were told 'one week' after one week and still no electricity we went back to Kibtec and where told to go to the power station, (near the water fall in Girne) we went there and the engineers found our request. Our electric was up and running the next day.
