As the mass protest thread has died thought I would offer a suggestion. It is too hot now anyway!! There are excellent methods to get mass message across still and we all must take part to ensure the powers that be do not give up. My own thought is letters. If half dozen at a time got together and signed same letter and got translated. Then deliver the letter altogether and tried to see recipient before handing to secretary. The targets would be - President, Prime Minister, Economy Minister. Also a key target is the head of Constructors Association. The letters must be delivered personally and a big effortmade insisting you see recipient. There are plenty of translators around. If you do not know where to go I can gladly help. Please do not stop the impetous that has started by the auctions. Mortgages are still the tip of the cieberg of problems here. Target the press, television, radio etc, use whatever influence you have to get in to places.

Come on folks, the football is useless until the knockout stages. Someone must have some thoughts or be prepared to actually do something.

One suggestion I would make in the light of the forthcoming local elections, is that you canvass your local candidates to see what they can offer their expat community in the way of support. Although we do not have voting rights I have been assured that because we pay local council taxes then we still have a voice. AJ

it reminds me of the old story of a man selling a business he'd spent his life building. In the contract of sale was a clause that said the old owner would be consulted on every change to the business the new owner made. He was, and then promptly ignored. I'm afraid without flexing power, such as using a vote, we will always be promptly ignored.

Malsancak, We do not have vote but we do have money to spend!!!!!! We can also make a lot of noise but it seems the crescendo has been and gone and it is back to peace and quiet. So far looks like nobody is prepared to put pen to paper and join me around Lefkosa.

cyprusishome, "We do not have vote but we do have money to spend!!!!!! " Now you're talking, that is the only way of flexing our power. By either not spending (NO KOCAN, NO MONEY!) or directing the spending power away from those who do not support our interests (banks who auction ex-pat property) That way we demonstrate our displeasure in a much more civilised way and with much more impact! Plus we don't potentially end up looking like a rabble.

Problem is there would be 12 of us not paying electric, telephone and not using the local shops, the rest would carry on as normal. How do you get the message across to the 8/10,000 foreigners who live here that if they want to continue doing so then they got to put up a fight. This government do not have much regard for foreigners that much is increasingly obvious. Not unlike CTA where my 11 year old great niece would be able to tell them what the problem is there is so much nepotism the airline will stop flying altogether and they will still be arguing. If not read then saturday 19th June CT has another excellent article by Ipek Ozderun, she pulls no punches. I know, 2 different stories there but both part of the bigger picture of a country going down hill very rapidly. We want to help but are shunned at every move.

Msge.8 "this government do not have much regard for foreigners...." I thought quite a number of ethnic TCs were and are also affected in this matter, not just foreigners. That being the case, they should also be included in any protests aimed at central/local government. Good luck to everyone.

I think not paying bills is a no no. There might be too many repercussions. For me the way forward has to be education. This would mean truthfully identifying all the pitfalls surrounding buying in the TRNC, creating constructive discussion as to how this has effected the buyer and suggesting solutions to these problems. This would make it both a negative and a positive thread , as whether you have experienced grief or not with the buying process, we all want to see the economy grow and our property values safeguarded. The publicity already being generated within the TRNC, International forums and the Media is shouting loud and clear don't buy there but rent. The construction, holiday and leisure industry are at their own admittance facing extremely worrying times. This bodes well for no one. Perhaps we should start a thread "my experience of buying" and by sharing experiences we might get an idea of the extent of the problem and also give those considering buying some useful t

I think that living here has been an education, Bradus. I personally would only get involved in something which actually stopped someone getting ripped off today. That's what I like about the NO KOCAN, NO MONEY! motto, it should be all around us like BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS! The cause of the problem is laughably simple to understand - the time between deciding to buy and receiving a title deed is UNACCEPTABLY long. Trouble is, it's being accepted by everyone. The governments (both north and south) will not move on this and this is inexcusable.

Well, I have started a thread for people to share their experiences. My experience is trivial in comparison to most who have lost thousands and are living without water and electricity. However for those in the same situation it becomes very worrying when you are aware that you are left open to memorandums being placed on your property. Hopefully it also emphasizes the need for more openness and honesty, qualities sadly missing.
