Almost weekly we could read on this board many boring threads about well known or hardly known English football teams. It's amazing that we - on this board - now hardly read anything about the poor performance of the best players England has sent to South Africa. I've watched both games (against USA and Algeria) and I pity the English fans. I really do.

Before this thread becomes very popular with the Holland-bashers (especially shooting at "Dutch") I add that I'm not proud of the performances of the Dutch team either. OK, "we" won twice, but games to remember? No way.

So. Are there board members who would agree that this WC 2010 is a very poor tournament - or did *you* spot outstanding teams?

From what I have seen it is awful, It makes me ashamed to be English, (along with many other things.)

It must be our worst team ever. I do not see how we can get passed Wednesday, If we do it will be a miracle.

But lets hope and wish England lots of good luck.

Re : Msg 1,

Outstanding - no, but I found Argentina and Germany rather impressive.

Surprised by poor performance of France and Spain this time.

Not surprised at all by England as their performance was pathetic last time.

Thus far only Argentina have looked good.

Netherlands have won twice but Denmark was a bore-fest with a silly own goal and todays game against the Nips was as poor. Van Persie handled before laying off to Sneijder (spellcheck?) and the keeper was a joke.

Chile and Mexico look decent as do Ghana.

Spain proved the point that possession is only valuable if you have an end product.

The whole competition is very one dimensional, hopefully it will pick up once the knockout stages start. If anyone wants to make some easy money next week then back Uraguay v Mexico for a draw, both teams need a point for them both to qualify at the expense of France and South Africa.

The African nations are so good to watch , but they will never win a tournament. The methodical teams

such as Italy and Germany will always do well. Unfortunately the footballing teams , such as Holland and

Mexico will always supply the entertainment but alas will never win !!.

Come on guys instead of slagging off your team (engerland) you should be getting behind them. The power of powerful thinking and all that or do you have to get Uri Geller to help you out again!!!!

Chris, Is Uri any good in goal?

Whilst I must declare a state of shock at how poor England's finals campaign has started, I have to say that if coming second in the group means we avoid Germany in the next round that's no bad thing...

I was amazed that immediately following the best crossed ball of the match, Capello took Aaron Lennon off. I actually thought England's pace and concentration went up a notch with Crouch, Wright-Phillips and Defoe on the pitch. They'd be my pick to start the next game.

I thought Barry had a mare... gave the ball away far too cheaply as did most of the players. No one was comfortable on the ball. Maybe the formation was wrong but everyone seemed to want to pass the ball to someone in a worse position than themselves. Some of the back passes were nigh-on dangerous too. Lucky that James was concentrating... for once!

Let's just hope we get our heads in the game for the decider.
