Have just returned after a lovely weeks holiday and my wife and I cannot praise the hospitality shown to us at the Manolya Hotel. They could not do enough for us and although our Yaxi was not due till 1800hrs we were allowed to remain in our room until then- how many other hotels can claim to that!!

The locals who are running Bars were very helpful and and although we claim that Lebanon is a really friendly place the Local Cypriots were absolutely magic and at NOT one Local place was our bill incorrect.

I am afraid to say that was not the same for a British Bar on the Lapta Strip, where apart from having plastic still attached to the ice cubes when having a small Bottle of Water with Ice- we were charged 5 yes 5 Lira for the privelige of 2 small waters. This was from the Welsh Owner!!

LEADAZ (formerly the Stumble) will never get my hospitality again, and this is after spending over 100 Lira ( a few G+Ts)on monday night when Laura was serving and he was not there.

I gave my 5 Lira and the owner threw it into his box and then carried on talking to his 'regular' at the bar and completely ignored me.

He knew what he was doing as I was a stranger an easy touch!!



I defend bars on here as understand how things work (see my entries about the HUT!)

But when I was completely given an ignorant service I am sorry I cannot excuse it!



Also as you want to make an issue, IF YOU ARE ADVERTISING FOOD then you make sure that THERE IS SOMEONE THERE TO COOK IT!!!

I did not mention that earlier but basically as you do not like complaints I will give both barrells!!



By the way my credibility lost................. theres lots of other bars who supply a MUCH BETTER AND HONEST SERVICE!!



I mentioned this to a few people and they agreed that this is not right and a shame on ALL OTHER BARS and something should be said.

Now that you have added the rest of the details, your'e unhappiness does make more sense however, when it comes to name and shame, I am not to sure that this is really to anyones benefit. You said yourself that you spent a fair amount on G&T's the night before so it was obviously OK to be there then. What I gather from your comments is that the bar owner was the person at fault here and not the bar or the regular staff but I may have missunderstood.

It all seems a lot over a 5TL bill which I believe you could have refused to buy had you felt that strongly.

I have had exactly the same treatment in bars all over the world, I won't go back to them but I doubt it made any difference to the bar.

But the basic fact is that I was ripped off no matter how much by- that is irrelevant, so is it okay then for British Bar Owners to rip off NON REGULARS.



I am sorry there is no excuse and instead of a vitreolic response as mentioned on message 3 then an apology would have put this to bed. But there are so many Brits who show your response and condone this action.

If I was not ripped off for a small amount what would have happened if I had a session then!!

Would you have rather have read about about maybe violence happening!!

Im not a soft touch but sometimes there are more ways to skin a cat!!

Message 3 makes NO MENTION of an apology so its quite obvious that ripping NON Regulars off are the norm there.



Hence why I feel fully justified by my course of action.

Like everybody else I went to pay on departure.

I paid like I said with a 5YTL Note and it was thrown in the cash till and the owner went back to his regular.



If you ever go to a place and are charged that then what is the price of a pint going to be- so Im sorry but do not see where you are going with your comment.



Other places charge 1YTL or 1.50 tops for the same water!!

5 tl for 2 bottles of water seems a taj steep but bear in mind the owners have to pay for electricity, rent etc. They won't get rich serving bottles of water! I think maybe you should have mentioned on the night that you weren't happy and given them the chance to rectify matters.

If you spent 100tl on 'a few gin & tonics' the night before surely you knew it was a rip off so why go back??

I went in Ileli supermarket next to Starling (or however you spell it) the other day. Got some bits, paid. Got what I thought was my change, seemed reasonable. Started walking away and she called me back to give me a few kurus.

I was in company of 4 others and was enjoying my holiday hence why it was that amount!

My wife and I went in with the intention of going to eat there and wait for the same friends, hence only having a water to start with but when I had plastic floating in my glass we decided on going elsewhere.



I feel totally vindicated by making it public as to protect any other innocent parties!

It is a fact of life that not everyone likes to complain there and then for fear of causing a scene especially if others are standing round a bar.



I have only been in the bar twice since this couple took it over and honestly didn't find it very welcoming myself with the staff standing with the regulars and hardly passing the time of day with new comers, who are potentiality in any business your new "money machines".

I've never been in this bar since it changed hands last and I don't know the new owners but it does seem that you are being unfair maligning them on this forum from afar without having given them the chance to put things right.

ANG WE SELL SMALL BOTTLED WATER FOR 2TL 500ML sorry caps locked, we serve it with ice and lime. we use bottled water to make the ice. i agree there is no need for rudness, if you felt that. with things as tough as they could possibly be in the trnc at the moment, is it not time to support anyone trying to make a living there. Opening a new business is the toughest thing to do and support from locals and tourists is paramount. Mistakes are made, no one is perfect, support them - advise them - don't help destroy them.
