Following on from the threads about the terrible driving here it appears from our observation that it is the Cypriot girls who are the worse culprits for driving whilst both smoking and talking on the phone.

After being incensed by their normal pattern of sitting on your back bumper, then overtaking on the inside & cutting you up by then swinging back into the fast lane dangerously close to your front I did wonder if such manouevres were actually legal here as we know that undertaking is legal in some countries.

Fast Lane? What's that? Where can I find one in TRNC?

I knew what an overtaking is and thanks now I know what an undertaking is. Any relations to undertakers? I bet if they keep driving like that they may meet their undertakers soon.

As far as I know it is illegal to "undertake" but do the police ever care? I see so many cars parked on zebra crossings and nobody cares.

Yes we are astonished that there are not more accidents and more need for undertakers (or funeral directors to give them their posh name) the standard of driving here never ceases to amaze us

Zebra crossings are another thing - have never seen a Cypriot stop at one - do they know what they are for?

May also be worth noting that 'fast lanes', as in the UK are for 'over taking'. Remember the public information films... stay left unless overtaking!!

message 6:

I slowed down to let someone cross over on a very faded crossing near Tantooni restaraunt on the Girne road, and almost got someone killed when the idiot in the other lane wouldn't stop!! I am now very wary of slowing down and allowing someone to cross if there are cars in the other lane........

If you intend to stop and let people walk across the road - position yourself so that no other car can get past you whilst stopped, sad but it is the only way to try to keep pedestrians alive!! Defensive driving is the only answer on the roads anywhere in the world, no worse and no better in the UK when I left just people were so scared of being caught on camera or nicked by a sleeping bobby that they obeyed the law when they thought they would get caught!

with more then 20 years driving experience, a total crash with injuries... and countless "half accidents".... drive slowly, defensive and try not to get involved into "their business", meaning trying to kill others... or, see it different: enjoing the incentive to break a (another) law...

you are right msg 1... not only the males are the bad ones... the girls are terrible too.

Msg 1 "then overtaking on the inside & cutting you up by then swinging back into the fast lane dangerously close to your front"

Are you sure that you were not in the wrong by driving in the "fast lane" whilst not overtaking and they were trying to make a point to you?

Im sure these lunatics think they are brilliant drivers, they dont realise they only got home in one piece because us normal drivers make allowances for them.

The number of times I've seen a driver pull out from behind me, straight into the path of a car coming the other way. You know you have to pull back to let them back in or there is going to be a crash.

Hi no I was not in the wrong as we had just come out of the roadworks going up the hill towards Lefkosa there were very slow moving trucks & lorries in the slow lane and I was around 2 vehicles length from the car in front in a long queue of traffic

OK ozankoys, it was only a thought as there is a lot of it goes on in UK, i.e. the dreaded centre lane hoarders on motorways, when the nearside lane is empty. What happened in your example is therefore unexcusable and dangerous driving.
