As an 80 year old male from Somerset I'm surprised that you bothered to open a thread entitled 'Help needed for large size ladies clothes' unless maybe you are an overweight, elderly cross dresser hoping to pick up a few tips?

That's a very old quip you posted - not nice & not particularly funny! Why is it that some people just have to be nasty?

I'm not a particularly large lady myself but I have a daughter who is a size 18 and know she gets very hurt at some peoples thoughtless, unkind remarks.

Theres a shop near digiturk on the road into Girne that is for larger ladies. I don't know the name of it but a quick drive by glimpse at the window shows nice modern clothes.

Coming from east of Girne, go through the traffic lights follow the road round and its before Digiturk shop on the right.

Thank you Maggie for saying what you have. I struggle with my weight, the same size as your daughter, and have too, suffered cruel remarks that have made me cry. It all seems a bit of fun to make those kind of remarks by people who usually are far from perfect themselves, I wonder what he/she looks like?

Lovinit, I do not know where to buy cloths in a larger size here, I usually shop when back in the UK. Sorry I cannot help.

Rocky, shame on you.

I am a BBW and proud of it and so should you ladies be. I reckon its just more to love!!!! There are some saddo's in the world and a lot of them post on here so take NO notice. I struggle with buying clothes here too so have to stock up on stuff when I go to UK or see it online and ask someone coming over to bring it. I would have thought you must be able to get stuff in Nicosia or Famagusta but nothing local that I have seen. Perhaps our Cypriot friends can advise us???

I also am a bigger lady and know the hurt that can be felt from unkind remarks. Not necessary and only makes the poster look silly because only the uneducated would state such childish playground taunts. Grow up.

I come over 2 or 3 times a year and if anybody wants me to bring clothes over I am quite happy to do this. I don't mind paying for them and then collecting the payment when handing them over too. I'm a regular pack horse for ex-pats that can buy things cheaper here.

Keep note of my email address linnyloos@live.co.uk

Will be out again in September too if anyone wants anything. M & S do 50% sales at least twice a year and I come out with hardly any luggage now.

There is a lady on the stall at Lambousa Market and also on Carpenters market (I think). She takes in/sells large sizes of clothes especially above 18. She has some beautiful clothes. She told me that she acts as a sort of agent if large ladies want to sell their clothes.

I think?????? she had the name Pollyanna on her table yesterday - wether that is the stall name or not I don't know. But her clothes are worth looking at - not cheap but very good value.

We have a large selection of bigger sizes in our shop The Dress Agency, we are based in Girne, past HSBC and first turning on the right. Tops, skirts, trousers, dresses, evening wear and swimwear, prices are very low, worth popping in and having a look.

Hi Parkview

What do you class as bigger sizes?? I have given up trying to get clothes here & buy online in the UK. Then friends help me out when they come out here. It's not ideal, but without using this method, I wouldn't have a stitch to wear. I once asked a TC girl, who was clearly my size, where she bought her clothes, thinking she must know an outlet in Cyprus. She answered............. the UK.

I went to the Wednesday market in Girne a couple of weeks ago, as i've been looking for larger ladies clothes too, i.e size 20 - 22, and was pleasantly surprised, there were quite a few stalls there selling clothes from about a 16 upwards, not at the front part of the market but further in, where most of the other clothes stalls are. All the ladies selling the clothes spoke good english, and were really friendly and helpful, showing us the different styles and colours of the clothes, which were fashionable - and fitted! Tops were around 20TL each and trousers/shorts/skirts etc are around 30TL each.

We have sizes up to 20 in some of the dresses, it all depends what people bring into us to sell for them, but we have had clothes up to size 22 as well.

If any larger ladies (like me) are looking for evening wear try Gardenia, the bridal shop. Oya has some lovely creations there and they just might fit!

Thank you every one for the positive replies, I am so hot and fed up, at the mo, yes struggling to get some nice shorts and tee shirts that look nice but not to pricey.

The negative comments are very hurtful, I am sure if the posters concerned saw the reaction the caused maybe they would think a little longer before posting such nasty comments, although perhaps they enjoy the pain they cause others, hey ho who knows.

I wiped away the tears, tried to be positive.......

Thanks again to all ………..the kind folks out there

Lovinit,

Just don't let it get to you, I'm sure no harm was meant. It reminded me of a time a few year ago when one of the girls I worked with, a large and very attractive girl, put a young agency guy in his place. Jane bent down to pick something up and the young guy said, wow, haven't you got a big a***, she promptly replied, "it would fit in your mouth and still have room to rattle" !!!!!

The rest of us could hardly stand up for laughing and the young chap was very quiet afterwards.

Thanks for having the good grace to apologise Rocky.

In life you can never tell if someone has health problems or an eating disorder and so always best to not make comments that can be hurtful. I have two daughters and one son and one of the girls like me is prone to weight gain but she is a lovely and smart Mum of two. The other daughter takes after her Dad and is naturally slim but having just separated from her husband she went anorexic and was put on vitamin milkshakes to keep her alive because she was not eating.

Son is also like his Dad thin as a rake and every year when he has a medical for the Police they tell him to put weight on because he is so slim. He eats like a horse.

So this daft joke of "Who ate all the pies" is not funny.

Thanks for the apology though.

I noticed a 'Big & Beautiful' shop in Famagusta. It is on the main road going past the university, perhaps someone living that side could give you directions. There used to be a branch of that shop in Girne and a friend was able to get size 24 clothes in there, so it may be worth a try.

Think the shop in Girne is closed now. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I am in the UK at the mo but when I get back in about a week I have some size 18 clothes to sell. Mainly linen trousers and tops and a couple of skirts. I would be more than happy for you to come round to mine where you can try things on at your leisure. If you are interested then please email me and I will arrange a date.

I get cheap 3XL shorty trousers from the Wed market. Ok cheap - but they do a summer - they do jeans as well I think. The shop near HSBC does large sizes of clothes, man and womens - not dressy stuff, just day to day wear and Ive got nice jeans there, as can try them on. Try getting size 24 tops etc - impossible really - I get them in UK and get them brought out. One year my son said it was a good thing no one wanted to look in his case or they would think he was a cross dresser as ahe'd got a large selection of tops, swimsuit and pants!!
