This has been advertised in Saturday's Cyprus Today. It says Nidai Gungordu, the UBP candidate for Mayor of Girne Belediye invites foreign residents in the Girne catchment area, where he will address his guests in English and outline his proposals for the future of Girne Belediye including the introduction of a Foreign Residents' Liaison Office. His candidacy has the support of the governement and he is in a strong position to faciliate change. He will provide a proposal sheet in English?

Anyone going? It seems like a good opportunity to hear what he has to say. (Anyone advise on dress code? I haven't too many cocktail dresses here!)

I did, but I presumed that it would include temporary residents and not just those that have permanent residency. If it is passing on information about the plans for the Belediye that I pay my land tax to, then I have assumed that I am included. I will take my last year's land tax bill with me. They can only throw me out. Unfortunately, I do not have a little black number here.

It says I think without checking 'who have TRNC citizenship' this will keep the numbers down!

sloan, you could make a full afternoon of it - HBPG then quiz the prospective mayor!!!

That said he really has made himself popular with those who would love to attend. The exact wording is -

Cordially invites all Foreign Residents Holding TRNC Citezenship.

Bloody coward!!!!!!! That means nobody will be there

He invited all foreign residents holding TRNC Citizenship as they will be eligible to vote for him. Good for him - he'd only get a load of whingeing Brits there otherwise.

No doubt his promises will be as empty as those given by Eroglu when he 'met, the expats !!

TRNC politics are a joke. A law that will generate revenue for the 'Republic' can be passed in a matter of days but when it comes to protecting their 'expat guests'......deafening silence !!

I think I will take a copy of my kocan and my land tax bill and ask him to explain to me why I am not eligible to listen to his proposals if I pay land tax and water rate to the Girne Belediye. I will definitely not be a whingeing Brit .... I am genuinely interested in what he has to say and how it might affect me as a property owner in his area ...... or maybe I will just go to Guido's and play backgammon!

.... but back to the original question... anyone going? or might I be in a minority of two? (I would be dragging Mr S along, of course!)

Take a deck of cards with you - i think you'll be playing patience!

The ad clearly states "TRNC Citizenship" because these are the only ones that can vote for him. Standard electioneering for this part of the world. Why risk being harangued by people who can't put you in power?

Unless you can show a kimlik card, I doubt very much if you'll get in.

BEECHES OR IS IT BITCHES HAVING HAD A LOOK BACK THROUGH YOUR POSTS.

You must be one of the lucky ones who has kocan, electric, water and perhaps a happy Turk for company!!!!

Many of us are fighting a loosing battle and your stupid, inane comments do not help. Other than increasing the annoyance and anger level of those that have problems.

So kimlik card owners only .... i would have thought it would have been more cost effective for the Mayor to have sent out individual invitations. I cannot imagine that he is going to be overcome by miriad RSVPs. I think I might have been struggling to fit it into my busy schedule anyway .... and no posh frock. C'est la vie!
