Make sure that a banks name is not the last one on the log book.They lend money to car owners.My car had been owned by the bank at least 5 times.

Firstly, make sure they have all the correct paperwork. Log book, up to date tax certificate, MOT, emissions test certificate, and of course up to date insurance, ALL in the sellers name. Then check with the police that everything is ok.

Basheer is right, they wont find any recent fines;

i have asked to police 3 months ago, i have been told the fine is belong to the owner of the car at the time of fine.

About the taxes you can check the documents, road tax is paid yearly,insurance is paid yearly, exhaust emission and mot is valid for three years (if its not a commercial car).

About the condition of the car, take it to a garage before you buy, many of garages will tell you their opinion for free.
