Pipie, never a truer word has been spoken.

The way I see it is that the UK government has spent so long being nice to the poor man and taking the needed money from the rich man that it has turned into a nation of people with two choices.

Work has hard and as honestly as you can to afford what you need and strive to do better or sit back and be lazy and/or disshonest and get everything you want for nothing.

Examples: Income tax is levied at higher percentages the more money you earn (Why strive to get a better paid job, you don't gain that much)

Council tax: Spend your life saving or getting into debt for a better house and pay a higher rate of tax for exactly the same services.

Be unemployed: Pay no income or council tax, get your rent paid for you and money to spend on food (maybe)

What is the incentive to work in a country that makes life easier by not working and now they say that increases are required for the higher earners as the lower earners can't afford things, yay!

Spot on !!

Flat rate of income tax for all - if you earn more then you pay more tax, simples !!

Those on benefits should have their rent paid direct to the landlord and should be given food tokens for use at supermarkets. The state has a responsibility to provide housing and food for those who cannot afford it, that is where the state's assistance should end. It is not the state's 'responsibility' to provide widescreen tv's, ciggies and booze.

Rant over

Firstly stop all benefit payments to migrants (no matter where they come from) for at least a year, if they have no food then bring back soup kitchens.

Cut all overseas aid to minimum, look after your own first.

Cut child allowance to families with 3 or more children (after all it was their choice)

Do not increase Vat its high enough already

Cut Winter fuel allowance to pensioners that earn 30K or more

Cut benefits to out of work people who cannot prove they are actively looking for work

Cut obscene pay to Council Chiefs and National Health Managers

Cut out all public enquiries that cost fortunes that line the pockets of fat cat solicitors

And no I am not a member of BNP just a person that has always worked all my life, and now I am going to be hammered because I was sensible with my money (until I saw TRNC)

£155 billion in debt this year + interest.

- How much can a country take?

- How did we get in this mess in the first place?

Ask

Gordon Brown

HildySmith, ask the banks who lent money to people trying to buy a house which had increased in price 250%. That debt is partly the result of preventing the UK banking system from crashing and along with it the UK economy when their houses suddenly dropped 20% in price July 2007-July 2009 and they discovered that the ridiculous mortgages they had been given couldn't be paid. I suppose you could blame it on the government for not replacing the social housing that the Tories sold off which led to a boom in the rental market. Perhaps you remember the Apprentice multi-millionaire going bust with a massive debt bank had to cover. He was part of the reason Brown had to step in.

Malsancak

- My Mother 98 years of age had put her funeral/funds into Northern Rock shares - LOST THE LOT

- My husband (now retired) put his money into his Company Shares - LOST £40,000

- I too had a mortgage which was affected in the same way as you stated

Now I read that Tony Blair has homes to the value of £14million - the one he has in Trimdon Village, in the North east of England is up for sale - no doubt he does not wish to live in a mining village anymore as he does not need their votes.

Gordon Brown got us in the mess we are in by

- sitting back and doing nothing to stop them

- borrowing instead of paying off debts
