Few years back, there was an incident of a Greek Cypriot being held by Lefkosha Police and reputed to have been slapped around and apparently died a few days later after being released. I’ve heard that he was a Greek Cypriot eoka/mafia member and was not so brave when he was in the hands of the boys. Has anybody else heard of this story and shed some light on the matter.

If any of my GC friends who I know read this forum can help with this, I would really appreciate it. I am doing some research on the treatment of people being held by both police forces on the island and any information would be greatly appreciated.

I think this would be best posted on a greek cypriot forum if you are wanting the GCs to answer it

Message 3 Don't worry they read every word we write and reply on their forum. I will from there too. I was just wandering if any body had heard of an incident and if they have any other information. This is purely research and not meant to be political.

Hi there, I remember this story being widely reported in the Cyprus Mail some years ago. There was a bit of a fuss at the time and the family arranged a second autopsy in the South. Then the story just seemed to disappear. The TK Police said that the man's body had some bruising as a result of attempts to recusitate him after a suspected heart attack. I do not think there was anything in the autopsy to contradict this. You can be sure that if there was anything really suspicious about the death, the GCs would still be going on about it. DD

We are not on talking terms with DT. But I'll see him in London in a month’s time with a get together, I'll ask him then before I give him what for, he might just squeal a few words the swine. Halil wrote something about it being connected with the mafia on the other forum, but he did not sound too sure. DT did a strop and he stopped talking. You really think that DT will say anything other than what suits the GCs?

From the Cyprus Mail 3 November 2007 THE FORMER consul of Ireland in Cyprus Stephanos Stephanou has died in Turkish Cypriot custody after being detained on October 18 on accusations of smuggling antiquities. The cause of Stephanou’s death was not officially known, although it is believed he was not in good health and had been further weakened by his detention in the north. He was 64. Stephanou was well known on the island, having been the Irish consul for many years before Ireland opened a fully-fledged embassy and appointed an ambassador ahead of Cyprus EU entry. A statement from the Stephanou family yesterday asked that the media to respect their privacy in this difficult time. DD

Thanks Iceman for the info. I've got to have few more things to wind the old dog up when we meet in London. Any other dirt on him and GR and the rest of the fatherless lost souls brigade will be appreciated. The way I understand it, I booted them off my PC. I banned them first and may never allow such rubbish on my PC again. Have you seen how boring it has become. Deniz and Bir and the rest of the TCs should come over this side and stop wasting their time with Greek Cypriot zelouts over there including the Charluis in London. Lamron na dus gapsi je na das gami guzzalin.

Reh ttoli, we'll have no sexism here. Just because she may be the most broing human on earth, no need to blame the husband. She spends most of her time on the forum trying to find out what TC babies taste like. Would you want to sleep with that. What if in the middle of the night she wakes up and decides to find out what you taste like? Then what?

Tenakoutou, can I also ask about his daughter. What kind of character was she like, as a person? Was she a chip off the old block? There is a rumour about Oracle and GR, can anybody confirm whether it is true or not, how long did it last and was DT watching at the time. This is very important to my research about Greek Cypriots women, particularly those that are half Greek. Who on one side pretend to be religious and decent but on the other side actually are very promiscuous.

Hi again, I met Mr. Stephanou a few times while serving with the Irish UN contingent in 1997/98. The officer and senior NCO cadre were advised to have as little dealings with him as possible. Whenever there was a visit by Irish Government ministers he was always on hand toadying up to them and 'advising' on the Cyprus issue. One of us Senior NCOs was always given the task of allowing him access to the Duty Free store to fill up the boot of his car (illegally) with hooch. I seem to remember that the Daughter held concessions for Cyprus for UK confectionary companies (Mars, Cadburys, etc.) but my recollection could be flawed. She would turn up at the opening of an envelope and was always on the scene. Maybe she hoped to replace Daddy as the Consul. The plan fell apart when Ireland moved the Embassy from Baghdad (or Beirut) to Nicosia. They were not well regarded among the Irish community in the South either with much disparaging remarks at social functions. Nothing specific.

I'll be there to rub their noses in it, just like a little pup when it does it mess on the curpet. Apparently for a month, because I had a disagreement with their admin. I did not realise that I was that important. Noe that I know, I will make sure I get back and rub it in some more. The more Info I have the better. |

Iceman where did you come from. It is all a rumour, I don't really believe that, I just use it to wind up my GC cousins in the south. Where is the proof that Linobambaki even existed. All sorts of people make up all sorts of stories.

Following the Ottoman conquest, many Greek Cypriots and Latins, in order to escape heavy taxation, converted to Islam. Many Greek Cypriots who had been officially converted to Islam remained actually Christians in secret. They were normally called "linobambaki". According to a view expressed for the first time in 1863 AD, and then adopted in the following years, this word was taken metaphorically from a cloth woven with linen and cotton and which had two different sides corresponding thus to the two aspects of their faith. The "linobambaki" turned up during daytime as Muslims, and in the evenings they appeared as Christians, keeping to Christianity, its customs and its habits http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyprus_under_the_Ottoman_Empire http://linobambaki.tripod.com/ just google the word linobambaki

No Bafitis, I am not. He has called me everything under the sun, and I get banned. If you are a human what would you do. It is interesting to find out about a person and his background. I suspected he found wealth later. They are particularly horrible especially if it comes through a marriage. He had all the sympathy about his loss and manged to win you simpletons like you over. But there was more to that story that he said. Natural curiosity takes over. I am not viscous or malicious, he is. You GR Oracle DT are nothing but liars who make up stories regarding members when you don't even know them. But know this, what you said about my precious daughter you will never be forgiven for. Did you really think that banning me would silence me, then you are more stupid than you realise. But then again that is the description of Stupidity.

YFred, It is quite amazing how you falsify things! You were the one that called many every name under the sun, and then you broke the camel's back when you insulted Admin! Your banning has nothing to do with silencing you. Don't flatter yourself! You overstepped the mark, and you were consequently banned for your deplorable behaviour. It takes a lot to get banned at the other forum. Many TCs contribute there without any hindrance.
