Final score after 2 & half days play in the 5th & final set was 70-68 games. Unbelievable! The lanky American, John Isner, finally clinched this mega-marathon, history-making tennis match from Frenchman Nick Mahut. Not fun to watch as it was a showcase for serving skills and the occasional passing shot but the sheer grit & determination of those 2, the number of games played, the number of aces served etc.etc., means the record books will have to be written. And all this in their first, opening match! Brilliant.

Yes, Rocky. Senor Gonzales beat Charlie Passarell (spelling?) early '70's I think at Wimbledon but final score eludes me! Difference in this latest case is that its going down in the tennis history books as a WORLD first - officially the longest tennis match played anywhere, anytime, in terms of both time and total number of games played.

And I also meant to add - that all this took place on our own home turf, at Wimbledon ! Because of the football world cup tournament being on at the same time, only real tennis fans will be interested in the above statistics.

You are right Coachie and probably because the guy was kn*****d!!

It was such a shame that someone had to lose and as predicted by many, unfortunately, the winner would not get much further in the nest round as he would have been exhausted but what a record to have.

Coachie & Scoobydoo: Surprised he turned up for that match at all! Poor guy could hardly move, just served well - for a while. He was later quoted as saying : " I was running on empty but I wasn't dying for God's sake, just physically exhausted."
