Went to the butcher in Alsancak before. The one just before you get into the centre of the village if travelling from Lapta Village.

Bought just over a kilo of sirloin in one piece. (34TL, if anyone is interested Tesco.com are charging the equivalent of 44TL per kilo). I cut it into 4 steaks and 2 small roasting joints. Just had one of the steaks. Was gorgeous. Really tender and tasty, could have cut it with a spoon, literally ;-)

He's my butcher of choice from now on.

If you do not see at the counter the type of steak you are looking for do not hesitate to ask and he may be able to produce for you from cold rooms at the back, the same quality, and reasonable prices. Agree also the comments regarding the Cafe where you will get very favourable treatment if you use it one or two times or more a month, for example free coffees. On recent visits good wine which in most restuarants would be in bracket 25 to 35 lira per bottle sold for 15 lira. Have no allegiance to this particular business other than to say my family have always been well looked after throughout what must now be hundreds of visits over the last 5 years. This family business has also sorted out for us the problems and irritations which can sometimes occur when dealing with local council offices. If you over binge on the steaks do not forget your Lipitor tablets ! enjoy.

my mum fancies a fillet steak, think he had it on the tray next to the sirloin by the looks of it. To be honest though the sirloin was so tasty and tender, why bother paying loads for fillet. The sirloin was more tender than any (and fillet) I have ever had in a restaurant anywhere.

How I cooked them:

Marinated in olive oil salt and pepper for a few hours then fried for about 2 mins each side (would have done on bbq but a bit windy for a bbq)
