Does it not depend on the value of the goods?

What was the percentage charged?

Were you able t claim back the VAT from UK as they have been taken out?

They should have come to the same figure or there abouts?

That seems to me excessively too low. Don't tell me you have a relative in Customs.

smity,

Is this your permanent home or is it a holiday place.

If itis your permanent home and you are retired, not intending to work, then the duty should be next to nothing. If you did not declare this as fact then that would be reason for paying duty.

Customs officers tried to take my neighbours car yesterday its on ZT plates, and she pays the taxes every six months without fail. I was told she has paid nothing for 10 years!!! I said of course not the car is only 4 years old. Luckily i had all her documents and it was sorted out clerical error was the reason they said. I was in a panic for her.

The other thing to ask is, how long have you been out here. When I brought my things out I was told I had 6 months from when I first arrived to import my furniture. After that I think you're seen as importing for business purposes and then you'll be hit with higher taxes than if you have an import licence (though they're still quite high for businesses too).

I was charged £120 or two TVs. If you have a fax machine, radio or generator then I think there are extra charges for them too and you (or your agent) will have to obtain a special licence to import those (don't know what the cost is for those).

I paid nothing 3 TV's 3 pc's then loads of household stuff some new kitchen gadgets, not much was looked at. They seemed to be a little interested in some outside plastic storage containers, so that box had to be opened but they did not charge for anything.

This is the TRNC.

We have all been exposed to exorbitant charges at some time or another
